I'm talking total special teams, we never had a good kicking game under Nutt either and BP changed that quickly as well.

He had Tejada who was Nutt's first scholarship kicker (IIRC).

He didn't want Hocker until NSD of that year, took another kicker in that class, red-shirted him, then he left to I don't know where.

Our special teams were one of his teams best qualities IMO.

OK.

We had good return teams every year he was here.

None as good as DMAC/Felix on KOR, but sure.

Also he did have it shored up b/c Marquel Wade was gonna be a badass

Was he? Or was he going to be gone from the program before he ever got a chance?

Replacing Hocker will be huge this season, as well as shoring up the punt returner, KOR seemed OK, or the talent is OK there, they did block FGs for the first time in a long time last season.

Dennis Johnson was a pretty fricking good Kickoff returner.

I didn't say he wasn't.

That squad doesn't compare to DMAC and Felix back deep to return the kicks.

You say it improved across the board, but in reality it was having Adams at punt returner instead of Fish at muff returner or Hillis fair catching punts, etc, my original point.

KOR? Both had good squads. Bert could have a good squad with KM back there.

Kickers? Petrino had Nutt's for 2 years, Hocker was a late offer, so, Camaro or whoever that was must of been damn good. Bert is going to have a tough go finding a kicker as good as Hocker.

Nutt's biggest folly on STs was not having scholarship kickers, he was able to get good kickers (Dan Bailey for example) but he and Saban refuse to give a scholarship to a guy who can win or lose you a game for some reason.

I'm just glad the days of walk-on kickers is over.

I think we took Hocker for granted because he is so damn good. Hedlund will be a good replacement though.

I remember in Hocker's freshman year, I was at the Georgia game in Athens and he kicked a 45 yarder that went over the top of the uprights. It could have been a 60 yarder. Even the Georgia fans were saying holy shite, who is this kid.

Obviously glad we had hocker for 4 years, but Camara is an all-southland kicker for UCA...would have been good with him too. Petrino could pick out kickers i guess

So what do you guys think about Coleman at LB?

Jerico Nelson was listed as 5-10, 214 and played very well at that position. Coleman is listed at 5-10, 207. Butu was an undersized LB, we have had others in the past and it has worked out well for us.

The defense needs more speed in the back 7, it worked for Jimmy Johnson at Miami in the 80s, more and more teams are playing big12 football or running high school offenses in the SEC now.

Coleman looked good at linebacker. He covered and tackled well in space. I really like the move.

Coleman to LB doesn't bode well for our already shitty depth at safety

One could argue that our LB depth is even shittier.

We're arguing tallest midget here. When the injuries come, we're royally fricked at both positions. We need a guy that can recruit defense like Pittman can recruit OL

Those are not the only positions that would be so, on the other side of the ball you can add: QB, TE, and WR.

Obviously it all of this did not happen over night, it won't be fixed over night either. Its kinda like going out for a night on the town, doing shots up and down Dixon then ending up at the Cowboy slamming beers, then leaving at 4 am with this blonde chick with most of her teeth, at that time doesn't matter having sex, but then a month later the bumps and sores start appearing and you have to make a trip to the doctor to have a cotton swab shoved up your pee hole. When you are in the moment, high on good feelings, you tend to not care about the future until it happens and you are left wondering how it got that bad, that is how I would describe the Petrino era.

QB, absolutely. TE, I'm slightly less worried after the Derby move, but we're still thin.

I'm not nearly as worried about WR though. We have enough WRs now to luck into being effective at the position IMO, especially since we only run 2 or 3 WRs at a time. Hatcher is the only solid, proven contributor but there are so many guys behind him (Cowan, Wilson, JCorn, Hawkins, Morgan, Hollister, Robinson, Edwards) that have "potential" that the law of averages is far in our favor. Still wishful thinking until we see it on the field, but if I were a betting man I'd say we'll be okay there.

Coleman is better at Linebacker than he is at safety. He's still somewhat in the safety rotation but they are putting him at linebacker in certain packages and he has more of an impact there.

Honestly, we're most likely going to suck this year anyways. I wouldn't mind seeing AA and Rafe get thrown into the fire some this season. Bottom line is that with Storey coming in, only one of those guys is ever going to be the man going forward. I wouldn't be shocked if AA ends up transferring after this year or next b/c it seems he has less potential than BA. They should've played him some last year IMHO

I don't want to see Rafe get any time this year. There is no sense in blowing his redshirt year unless we absolutely have to because of injuries.

The kid didn't enroll early to sit on the sidelines. I'll be much more surprised if he doesn't play this year at least some
