Scrimmage stats from 247:

Here are the stats from the scrimmage and remember on the number of touchdowns given up by the defense isn't reflected in the stats. For instance, Arkansas worked on Red Zone stuff so many of the drives were for 10 or less yards for a touchdown. So keep that in mind particularly on the passing stats, they are very misleading as far as touchown passes thrown and caught.

Sounds like Duwop has Tebow Syndrome and only wants to play QB. He'll probably be processed if he doesn't embrace reality.

It does seem that way. He hasn't seemed very happy on twitter since spring practice started so I don't imagine he will stick around. It's a shame too because so far all the reports have said he looked really good out in space at WR and RB today.

It's been up and down for me a couple of times today. I imagine it has to do with the upgrades they have been doing.

Interesting update- Jeremy Ward to have surgery on back. He still wants to play after but that smells of a medical hardship coming.

This would be his second one, correct? That never bodes well for your long term prospects of playing.

Overview

Defense won this scrimmage in my opinion. The defense seemed to be more consistent and made more plays than the offense. I love the fact that Bert hasn't placed a restrictor plate on Smith. The defense brought pressure often, and usually with good results. The offense didn't have very many explosive plays, and they really only came in the situational part of the scrimmage.

This team doesn't look like a completely new team and it would be ridiculous to think they would only a few months removed from the season. However, some players did stand out to me and having a noticeable change in their physique.

**Individual player notes**

Defense

Tevin Mitchell - Is a little bigger than he was last season and I didn't notice him being a fricking pussy on the field either, which was nice. He didn't get burned and he didn't miss any stupid motherfricking game changing arm tackles. So an alright scrimmage from him.

Brooks Ellis looks a lot bigger to me. He has good build, but I don't know if he is quite fast enough to be dominant, but I will wait until I get a better look at him. He had a nice interception off of a deflected pass in the redzone.

Darius Philon looks like a scary dude. He was a lot trimmer in the midsection but looked more muscular. He is a beast and will be great again this year barring injury. As far as play on the field he's a guy you don't have to worry about.

Deatrich Wise is a monster and as you all know I've been high on this dude since seeing him in fall practice his freshman year. I sat really close to the field and got to see and hear the players, and I have to say I fricking hate this kid's sideline demeanor. He's too moody and I think that is part of what the coaches are talking about when they speak of his maturity. He just moped around like a little kid and seemed to pout quite a bit. He is going to contribute on this team and he will make some nice plays this year, but I feel his attitude is what is keeping him from being an All-SEC type of DE. I hope I am wrong and he was just having a bad day.

De'andre Coley - Is built nicely for a freshman and lays the wood when he tackles. I can see him being one of the favorites in a couple of years.

TQ Coleman - I thought he might have looked the best out of anybody today. He made several plays and had a nice interception. He tackled well and the third down package where they bring him in as another linebacker seemed to be an alright package. He is really short and doesn't have blazing speed, but he hits hard, tackles well, and is not shabby in coverage.

Otha Peters - I thought he looked really good out there with his play and physically he looks great. He tackled really well, did alright in the passing game, and looked really good when he blitzed.

Braylon Mitchell - Looks a little bigger and I noticed him knock the shite out of a few people today. The package that has him coming off the edge is nasty and I believe we are going to like it this year. He looked really good when he speed rushed from the end and had a nice sack doing this.

The defense started off dominating the offense. They couldn't run or pass on the 1st team defense in the first few minutes of the scrimmage. The offense was finally able to get some positive yardage when they did 3rd and short for a while. The defense said frick running up the middle and murdered anybody who attempted to do that. That may have been the best run stopping between the tackles I have seen in a while. With that being said, the defense seemed to succumb to misdirection plays and I believe that was a result of the defense being a bit too aggressive running to the ball. Overall the defense played alright but there is still a lot of work to do on that side of the ball. It was encouraging to see the defensive backs stick with the receivers and look for the ball. It was also encouraging to see the defensive backs tackle well in the open field. Also the defensive backs didn't play 3 miles off of the receivers for the whole scrimmage either. Most of the plays given up were due to assignment errors and not my vagina hurts errors. Clay Jennings looks like a solid addition. He was teaching the whole time and seemed like a coach instead of a a guy waving a towel saying ALRIGHT LETS GO, ALRIGHT GUYS LETS GO. I think Robb Smith's approach will bear fruit at some point but I don't know if it will be this season or not. They seemed to turn the guys loose a little more and they were definitely more aggressive especially for a mid spring scrimmage.

Urfense

Brandon Allen - BA is the best quarterback we have on the team, period. The people that were saying Austin has a better arm were full of shite and should be slapped with wet pool noodle. He has the best arm and accuracy out of the three quarterbacks and that is the indisputable truth. He still needs to step up his decision making, but make no mistake he is and will be the clear number 1 all season.

Austin Allen - He looks like he is just a step behind Brandon in arm, accuracy, and decision making. He may end up being an alright quarterback but he is the clear number 2 at this point.

Rafe Peavey - This guy has only been with the team for a couple of months and he looks like a guy thats only been here for a couple of months. His accuracy is very inconsistent, but he does have a nice arm. His decision making needs an arse ton of work but he looks to have a real nice upside and has a set of wheels on him. If anybody still thinks he is going to come in a steal the starting quarterback job then they need to ride a bike down some stairs. If Rafe has to play this year we are going to be hurting at this point, but he has the summer and fall to improve and I believe he will.

Jonathan Willams - Looks bigger and meaner and is still unexpectedly fast. He doesn't look like he should be that fast but he just is. Science and shite.

Alex Collins - Looks like he gained 15 to 20 pounds. Not all of it looked like good weight. He seemed to bang more in the run game, and he still has those elite hips that allow him to change direction on a dime. I didn't notice his speed change that much one way or the other but he didn't seem to have the bouncy energy he had last fall. He just kind of lumbered back to the huddle instead of sprinting like he used to.

Kody Walker - Kody looked great out there today. He has a little wiggle and a lot of pop. Some skinny db from the second or third team is probably at the police station filing a report on Kody right now. He will probably be a FB most of the season, but with Korliss out he got reps at RB and looked good going against the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team defenses.

Hunter Henry - Looks like a man out there on the field and plays like one as well. He is who we thought he was. I look forward to him staying healthy and being a badass next year.

AJ Derby - Holy shite I can't believe this dude ever played quarterback. He looks really awesome at tight end. I don't know how his blocking is, but he could be a serious match up problem in the passing game. I was completely shocked by him today. He dropped a wide open touch down off of play action, but made up for it later with a TD on the same drive. His is no Hunter Henry but he is a much better option at TE than QB.
Jared Cornelius - He has a nice set of hands on him. He catches the ball away from his body and will contribute this season. As well as he caught the ball as a receiver he dropped 2 punts and that was slightly alarming. Nice looking freshman, instant contributor.

Cody Hollister - Nice size and really good hands, but might be a touch too slow to be a deep threat for us. Austin and Brandon seemed to have trouble dialing back the throws when trying to hit him down the field. He will be a possession receiver and possible redzone threat.

De'Arthur Cowan - He looked pretty good out there today. He had two really nice runs off of a slip screen. Super fast and if his hands improve will be a play maker for us, hopefully.

Kendrick Payne - Didn't look too shabby at receiver and had a nice touchdown grab that was thrown to his back shoulder.

Drew Morgan - Looks a little bit more like a college football player but didn't notice him making much noise out there.

Dan Skipper - If this dude doesn't get drafted to the NFL I will run around my neighborhood 5 times then eat my underwear. He is the embodiment of how we want to play. He's mean, he's nasty and he plays to the whistle and sometimes he pretends he didn't hear the whistle and he plays to the panic multi whistle where coach Bielema and all the refs are blowing their whistles. This dude is just awesome and doesn't take shite from anybody.

Cordale Boyd - Looks like he has been in Herbert's program. Nice size and definition to him, and looks pretty athletic. I can't speak to his technique or anything like that but he looks the part.

Denver Kirkland - He looked like the same ole Denver to me. He is solid and we won't have to worry about him.

I didn't get a good look at the Full backs so I can't really comment on them.

The offense has a long ways to go, but I think there is some potential there. They are definitely trying to work out some kinks on the offensive line. They had success running on the edge at times, but couldn't get shite up the middle. Sam Pittman will earn his money and fix things, but he has a lot of work ahead of him.

The passing game involved more slip screens and tight end posts. I didn't see an abundance of deep sideline throws and that was a relief. Brandon Allen still has a lot of work to do to get us to a point where we are consistently putting points on the board. I still don't know if Chaney is the answer at OC but that will play out after this season I'm sure.

We won't know much about this years team until we see them in the fall, but I can say that I am at least encouraged by the attempt to be more aggressive on defense.

Also, I forgot to mention Duwop. He needs to give up on being a quarterback and go with WR. He looked good catching the ball in and running in space, but I was watching him throw the ball on the sideline and he just needs to stop.

FMB that is a superb write up.

The OL review makes me nervous. If we can't run the ball like last year and the passing game hasn't drastically improved then we are royally fricked. Hopefully the work the links out before Auburn.

I think Ragnow and Wallace could come in and make noise on the OL like Denver and Skipper last year.

At this point I am honestly not worrying too much about the oline. They had to replace a couple of starters and they are moving people in and out of the line up. I think we will be just fine when the season starts. I do have some concerns about the second unit though. They got their arse handed to them by the defense and Sam Pittman. If Skipper or Kirkland go down then I will be a little nervous.

Sounds that Cook is looking good at RT. Wallace might be one that does like Skipper last year and play guard as a freshmen until Cook leaves then move over to RT.
