I thought I'd see if other states have some unusual HS mascot names. In Georgia we have the Syrupmakers and Atomsmashers and Arkansas has the Ozark Hillbillies. Does anyone have something better?

Not better or crazier, but way more pretentious.

The big high school in CoMo is the Hickman Kewpies.

The school I went to for Freshman year was the Cheyenne High School Desert Shields, named after the military action in Iraq before desert storm from back when there was some national pride in the military.

Winters Blizzards
Hamlin Pied Pipers
Troy Trojans
Mesquite Skeeters
Crane Golden Cranes
New Braunfels Unicorns
Cameron Yoemen
Frost Polar Bears

and here's an interesting one from Bronte

Don't know if this has been said yet, but Kliff Kingsbury, head coach at Texas Tech, and former OC for the number one offense in the SEC, was a New Braunfels Unicorn.

Oh I got one. Down here around my neck of the woods. Couldn't believe it when I first saw it, but behold:

The Laurel Hill Hoboes

Always nice to give the kids something to aspire to

East Union Urchins but their symbol is of a seahorse. Colors are brown and gold. Their all brown baseball uniforms were great

When we go on vacation we pass the Watersmeet Nimrods High School in Watersmeet, Michigan. There was a great commercial on ESPN for them years ago. Also here in Illinois there are the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes.
Other odd mascot names

As has been said, the Central Purple Pounders here in Chatt. They use the Charlotte 49ers logo.

Then you have the Silverdale Seahawks, despite the fact that Chattanooga is absolutely nowhere near the ocean.

Back in SC, one of my college buddies was a Johnsonville Golden Flash.
