I think that's the negative honestly

He's also not from Georgia. He grew up in Florida, and spent some time and still has family in Michigan, iirc

UGA needs to get Woerner imo

As long as Scott Woener's nephew comes on board, I can handle losing out on Nauta. Apparently he grew up in FL and is a GA transplant.

I think the issue with WRs and UGA is two fold: UGA spreads the ball around ALOT. How many games were there where Murray hit 9-10 different guys in 1 game? This means that no 1 receiver is going to have really impressive numbers, especially TDs, no matter how great an athlete they are. I can guarantee you that most big time WRs are more easily recruited to schools that are pointing to a WR that pretty much was BMOC and therefore has great numbers.
Second thing: as someone mentioned, UGA doesn't go full bore after the elite WR unless they are already pretty interested in UGA because as has amply been demonstrated over the past 4-5 years, if you have enough really good and reasonably fast route runners, hands-guys, and blockers, your offense is just fine without the BMOC campus WR. UGA hasn't lost because of WRs, Hell, last year, it took unprecedented injuries to show that UGA offense couldn't quite function like it was used to, even with the top 4 WRs all missing games or having to play with a fairly significant injury in addition to the top 2 RBs being hurt as well.

remember when we had John Eason as WR coach? drops left and right, and tons of misses o recruits.

Tony Ball is a great coach, and probably our most underrated staff member.

I agree. One thing that is overlooked in how Richt's (or Bobo's, whatever) offenses have developed since he first got here was improvement in WR play.

I was young but early in Richt's career, especially with Greene, I remember the WRs being far more of a liability. These days they're studs for the most part. They may not kill it in the draft but they do their jobs well or block like Israel Troupe and my favorite Tony Wilson.

yeah i guess the progression of complexity in our offense/change in rules has helped too. back in the Greene days it was mostly 1 or 2 WR sets and I-formation. Gibson and Brown were good, but there wasn't much depth behind those guys.

I never liked Fred Gibson as much as everyone. Always a fan of downtown Reggie Brown. But those guys had so many more drops than the guys these days.

Also, speaking of i formation, the pistol better make a god damn resurgence soon...

It just seems like the offense is so much more refined and organized than it was in the Greene days. Idk maybe I was just young and less observant, but I never felt like those UGA teams had particularly organized route combinations of 3-4 WRs that could just dice up defenses like we've had the past few years.

It seemed like it was all about Gibson and Brown making plays one on one down the field, which was great when it worked, but when a team had a good secondary we'd get bogged down.

Couldn't agree more. And didn't yall feel like drops happened with regularity?

I'm with yall, I was young and naive, but that's what it felt like

you hold your goddamn tongue...he is a ware county gator.

but his production did go down after his freshman year it seemed.

he was at a friends house in waycross one night and my friends tried to get him to smoke some pot, and his reply was "Hell naw, I'm a fricking athlete!"

shite was inspirational.

Yeah, but at the same time, it was really rare for one of our receivers to be running free for the above mentioned reasons. More of the catches were contested in man coverage, so you have more drops. A lot more of our completions are almost uncontested now, which is awesome. You naturally have a lot less drops that way.

Alright guys, it is AJ GREEN. AJ Greene was some no talent Lber of DL ( i think) that went to Auburn. The least you can do is get his name right.

AJ Green is also a very rare bird: a true no. 1 WR that isn't insanely egotistical.

I was talking about Greene as in the David Greene era offense. I think other posters were doing the same.

I would never confuse A.J. Green with that guy AU had
