.but that wasn't the target of discussion in the auburn recruit thread

Yeah it kind of was. Maybe not directly, but you and several others had a hard time understanding why a top WR would go there.

quote:

imho they will not buy more production becoming more balanced because there is not much room for improvement.

That's assuming Defenses don't do a better job VS that running game this year, a near impossibility. Combine that with them losing one of the most dominant OL we've seen in the SEC (Cam Robinson) and the loss of their key RB (Tre Mason) and their key FB (Jay Prosch- for which they have no replacement) and you'll see that it is impossible for that running game to be as good as it was.

..i appreciate the response but was looking for something different... again ..maybe that was what some other posters were aiming at but that was not my question..your answer offers me little towards my inquiry...based on Gus's 2013 season...and that offensive scheme....what is the draw for a big time WR recruit to play for auburn.....there is very little i do not understand regarding my own question of interest..thanks

I agree..i think I made reference to this in regards to Gus having the right pieces in place last year...and his change toward more balance is a condition of that offense peaking it's potential.....my discussion was with auburn faithful who felt that they would retain the rushing attack of 2013 with an equally elite passing attack....

Regardless..if defenses improve against their scheme or if auburn balances rushes with passes with success....statistically they will not see an improvement from 2013 in offensive production because it was that dang good

we gonna accept that Speedy Howard dude's commitment?

Like Crow said, I don't think he has an actual offer right now, but he is SUPER FAST and certainly a name to keep in mind down the road. Very raw, but has the kind of speed Pruitt loves.

THey will have more success throwing with a more comfortable QB and a better WR Corp.

...whew.

Not likely with losing their best OL and biggest running threat. It doesn't matter what Marshall does, he'll never be a great passing QB. Better than last year? Maybe, but it isn't like there is a lot of room to improve before he hits his proverbial ceiling as a passer. If he wasn't already there...

Because it is mind-boggling. It is similar to a kid like Eason committing to AU or Urban Meyer. Why would they do that? It is a waste of his talent unless Craig's greatest asset is his blocking downfield.

So because they lost their best OL and best RB they won't have more success throwing? That's doesn't make much sense.

I didn't say Marshall would be all world. You're right he isn't ever going to be great but better than last year is very possible.

Right but what you're not understanding is they will throw more after Marshall leaves.

Very much so. A guy like Marshall is rare to have that kind of speed playing QB. Sean White is going to bring a diffrent style and a more pass oriented attack and with the recievers they are bringing in look for them to be alot more balanced in the future.

Makes perfect sense. Tre and Robinson are gone, so we all expect the run game to take a step back and focus on Marshall, at least early, right? Since the run game won't be quite the threat it was last year and they'll probably throw more, DCs are going to feel much safer dropping a man into coverage instead of bringing him into the box and since I don't think Marshall will actually be any better as a passer, that would likely equal even less success throwing the ball than before.

Of course they will, but well enough that a 5 star WR should be buying in on such a flight of fancy? Ehh, I guess Gus is quite the snake-oil salesman. Unless you really think Ryan Aplin proves anything?

I'd get it if Craig were a legacy or at least had a coach or something that went to AU, but otherwise...it smells a little like Vol in here...

So, supposedly the warrant of arrest from the Dawg Night robbery has been issued to Darnell Salomon. The 5* WR from Florida that we gained some good ground on at Dawg Night. Frick..
quote:

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, UGA Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Darnell Salomon, a receiver at Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic. Salomon is the No. 3 receiver and No. 21 overall prospect for 2016 in the 247Sports Composite.

Per the AJC, he "is accused of entering the unlocked suite of two female students in Busbee Hall this past Saturday morning and stealing an iPhone5 and a wallet containing cash and credit cards."

ETA: Enjoyed this little gem at the end.

At this time, it is not known if Auburn will continue to recruit him.
Yeah...

An article where Easons dad basically said that once J. E. committed, then that is the end of his recruitment. He is a solid for UGA, barring the end of the world. Also, him and big Ben are going to actively recruit for UGA, so yeah, the future looks bright!!

Some but how about his offenses at Tulsa. They threw the hell out of the ball.

No. Auburn is simply the hot team with kids right now.

first..to label an opinion logical or illogical is void as it's just another opinion...

second..I see nothing wrong with his opinion..it's quite possible that marshall will not improve as a passer..even with better receivers and more experience...practice and experience does not always yield improvement.....imo he will probably improve his passing numbers because they will attempt more passes and he will be somewhat more comfortable at the position..but that is yet to be seen

adamwilson...are you a UGA student? how old are you? just curious...

..I also agree..Auburn is the hot team as of present...and Gus has a history of putting up passing yards...

Why is everyone going so crazy over this WR to Auburn thing?

Here is my take, if anyone cares:
1) Gus might just be the best OC in the country...AU at times was literally unstoppable last year...and even though they have lost a lot of talent..Gus will ALWAYS field a good offense. There is nothing wrong with wanting to play for an Offensive genius.

2) A good OC (which no one will argue Gus is), will take advantage of their situation. Make the best out of what they have...and having this receiver will improve AU's passing game by giving them an elite WR. You can't make a fricking salad without lettuce...you get it without the horrid metaphors.

3) AU is in the SEC...the SEC West at that which is marginally stronger than the East (no UGA fan with half a brain would argue with that)... and they are coming of off a national title appearance and a title win a few years back.

4) Playing time...this kid will come in and play right away...this means more than most think.

Im sorry but it annoys me to see people wondering why this kid went to AU...it makes perfect sense to me.
