I liken it to girls writing "Mrs. Jonathan Taylor Thomas" (or whoever the teen dream du jour is these days) on their notebooks in middle school, or a bumper sticker you stick on your car at 17 because you think it looks cool. Eventually you mature a bit, your likes and dislikes change, and you toss out that folder or rip off the bumper sticker. The tattoo is staying put, though, unless you can afford to have it removed or covered up with something worse.

The key is to actually put thought into your decision and not just go drunk one night. If someone realizes their decision is permanent and will be there when you're 90, and it's something they are serious about, I can't hate.

I have a UGA tattoo. I thought about it for over a year, and when I got it I was sober as a judge. I've matured quite a bit since then, but have no regrets at all about getting it. I love it still.
