Wow..

I agree with CMR 100% on this one. It seems unreasonable to be "told" that you'd be the next head coach. That's just dumb with zero HC experience .... or any significant track record outside of Bama.

Smart's realy not that smart, is he?

Of course we'll never know if it was Kirby that stuck to his guns or if CMR never gave him the chance to reconsider.

edit: or all of it could be bullshite...which is probably the case.

If you believe the folks on FSF, all bridges are in tact. Kirby's still on the table for HC once CMR hangs it up to take Jesus to the savages.

I think Smart must think he has a great chance to be future HC at Bama and that is why he doesn't seem to want to leave.

I'm very very exciting. Pruitt has learned from one of the best defensive minds, he has won a natty, he has reformed a D that lost a TON of talent in less than a year, and he is a good recruiter.

I know. I said there was a 50/50 chance Kirby was coming.

At this point, let Bama keep him. I've moved on from Kirby.

We should've pony'd up and paid Kirby whatever he wanted. But, we will just have to wait and see how this goes. If he gives UGA a top 5 defense in year 1, I will be ok with this. He should have something in his contract that gives him a raise similar to what CTG got at Loiseville. If not, this move doesn't make "business sense". Why in the hell would FSU let their NC winning DC leave after 1 year for $850K? I don't get it. He had the No.1 D in the country and he was going to get AT LEAST a 17% raise. They should have matched $850K from $500K if they really wanted to keep him, right? I just hope the money we saved on this deal gets us a great LB coach, an IPF, a revamped S&C program and staff, better recruits, and at least an SECC FAST!!

If he gives us a top 20 defense in his first year, that will be a huge improvement.

He will have similar talent at UGA as he did at FSU. We have a slightly easier schedule and almost all of our defense is coming back. It would be really hard for him to screw this up, just as it was at FSU. He should most definitely have us in the top 10 in defense and there should be zero excuses. I'm not really happy with this move, but we shall see. I hope I'm wrong and I am glad to have him over Grantham! But if the Kirby rumors are true, than we just lost out on Cochran too. That hurts bad. Pruitt better make drastic changes in the S&C staff and program!

We may get better just by Pruitt simplifying some shite for our players.

the hell...how could you not be happy? The guy has been a success everywhere and just had the #1 got dang defense in the country. His team played 3 teams last year that we'll face next year, and did better than us in all of them, by an extremely large margin in 2 of those to boot.

The guy is a lights out recruiter and will instantly shore up our worst area of defense. The only negative anyone could possibly have about this hire is to compare him to the imaginary scenario they had in their head that didn't pan out. This is a fantastic hire. A home run.

It's so refreshing that our defense won't be staring at the sidelines confused when the ball is snapped anymore.

Another thing that makes me giddy is that Pruitt held Clemson to 14 points last year, on the road, midseason. We gave up 38 on the road in game 1. I can't wait to see how much different we look in that game this year compared to last.

At first blush, the players are flat-out EXCITED about the hire. Especially Davin Bellamy, naturally.

Some fans should temper this expectation. I would be happy with a top 15-20 defense.

Now that I have read a few good articles on Pruitt and really didn't care about him until Kirby and Cochran were "for sure" off the table. So, I somewhat retract my previous statement's. Here are two good articles from tomahawknation......
