Alright so we have you, me, 3nOut, WCA. Anyone else game?
Since I have a feeling this thread is about to go off the rails, we should probably start another to see if anyone else wants in/start making some suggestions on what to read/how long to read.

Yeah. When Belle suggests some eat pray love crap I'm out.
But ground rules would be good. No political or religious stuff unless it's acceptable by all.

Hey, I'm better than that thank you very much.
Ground rules would be good. Might be best to have everyone suggest some books, vote on them, and go with what the majority wants.

How was it? I've heard good things (FWIW, this would probably be one I'd suggest).

Always wanted to read that one. Heard it was impossible to make into a movie due to violence.

I really enjoyed it, but the plot is pretty gruesome--an impressionable kid falling in with a band of 19th Century outlaws traveling across the West committing unspeakable acts of violence .
McCarthy's writing is unbelievable if you can get past the horror of it all. It's the only McCarthy I've read, sadly. Heard great things about Suttree and All the Pretty Horses, though.

I love McCarthy but Blood Meridian was a bit too much. I know it's his supposed masterpiece, but some of the narrative just drags on way too long. I've loved everything else of his, so go figure.
It is very violent.

For the longest time I thought McCarthy was just a post-apocalyptic guy (not a genre I'm a fan of). Blood Meridian has intrigued me. I've also wanted to read All the Pretty Horses.

All but The Road are westerns, generally speaking. All the Pretty Horses is good, as are the other two in the trilogy. No Country For Old Men is his best work, IMO.
I've read Blood MeridiN twice and it just pisses me off. Paragraphs shouldn't last 3 pages.

My first recommend is Atlas shrugged then.

For some reason, I found "the Judge" one of the most unforgettable characters I've ever encountered in literature. Not necessarily good/bad, just fascinating.

Read that. Who is John Galt? He's a fricking a-hole is who he is.

Not going through all the pages to see if its been suggested but anything by Brad Thor.
If spy/terrorism isn't your thing Patrick Rothfuss The Name of The Wind and The Wise Man's Fear are good.
Also Lee Child's Jack Reacher series are pretty good as are James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux series.
