This season with Gus reminds me of Nutt's first year with Ford's guys. It wasnt so much his style of play calling it was he brought an excitement to the program. Chizik had taken the air out of Auburn, and Malzahn put it back in. Chizik's recruits won this year. Just like Freeze's won at stAte. Malzahn hasnt been anywhere long enough to see what "his recruits" can do.
Going off track record I think Arkansas got the better coach, but the B1G is garbage to everyone on this site.

I was waiting on you.
I guess we could have over paid for Briles like you guys just did with Sumlin.

People always talk about the four candidates Long interviewed. Gundy, Patterson and of course Bielema, but people think the 4th was Petersen. It was Gus.
I have no idea what the Arky interest in Gus was. I do know that Auburn was working on higher profile candidates with Gus until the end, although I think Gus was the "family" pick throughout.
If you're implying Gus had Auburn on hold until he heard from Arkansas, I find that hilarious.

Gus has proven he's a better coach in just a year
So I guess he's a better coach than Miles too.

I don't think it is unreasonable to say we have to wait on BB to see if he can prove himself a good fit at Arky.
I think he's a competent coach, but the SEC is a different animal.
I do think it is unreasonable to deny that Gus has a clear clubhouse lead, especially when it is usually combined with "Well Arky fans understand that Gus is flashy at first but then leaves programs in disarray. Auburn will learn. AUBURN WILL SEE!!!"

I think there would have been a lot more backlash in Hog country if they would have passed on Bielema for Malzahn. The Hogs would have been just as bad and Malzahn would have been a lot more controversial.
Hogs fans are pretty funny. I've been living in NWA for a little over a year now and they are a very optimistic group of fans. Every year they seem to think is their year. This year after their first 2 wins they really thought an 8-9 win season was possible.

How is this denial?

One which has only been gone a year so he had all his same players for his system.
What is this magic formula of which you speak for BB... bringing in 3-star talent to run an offense which has been unsuccessful in Big-10/SEC match-ups in the past?

Finally a realistic AU fan.
Well, I just remember the heated arguments on here in 2009 about who was the better hire.....Chizik or Lane Kiffin.

Bielema was a good "name" hire. Certainly admit that. But the questions about whether Arky is a good school for that style of play, and BB's recruiting abilities down here arose immediately, and haven't been resolved.

They all won't admit it, but yes they wish hey had Gus. What do you expect to hear from them since they have Bielema?

You mean like when his Wisconsin team beat Arkansas in the 2007 Cap One Bowl?

Who do you think recruited our Jr's and Sr's on offense?

I think both are good coaches and both would have been great hires, but both would have had horrible seasons with our crap sandwich of a roster that Bob and JLS left us.
I said before the season that we should build a statue of Bert if he got us to a bowl game with this team.
Petrino went 5-7 his first year here while Nutt went 9-4. Does that make Nutt a better coach?
