I understand that hindsight 20/20. But, considering the fact that this guy was in Arkansas's backyard, this decision is warranted.

Long term Ark will have better hire, it will play out.

Didn't help that he spent his entire year at ASU taking potshots at tFlagship and trying to gin up a rivalry that never was and never will be. Odd for a guy who was rumored to have had his eye on our job for some time.

Two things Gus had working against his were his ties and his fanboys in Springdale. Nutt was damn near unfireable because of his deep ties in the state and his loyal following in Little Rock, and we didn't want to get into a situation where our coach came in with a few BOT members and a city already in his back pocket.

If Bert sucks in 2 years, he's gone. If Malzahn had sucked for 3 years, the fan base would be divided into factions and waging war against itself again.

i don't remember the details but there was a big anti-Gus contingent because of some stuff that went down. I'm sure a hog could tell you all about it. Don't see how the administration could pull the trigger on a guy like that.

How about let's not judge between 2 first year coaches. One which has only been gone a year so he had all his same players for his system.

They are anti-every coach. They hated Tubs. Arky doesn't win many football games, but as a state, they produce amazing football coaches. Bear, Tubs, Gus. I'm sure there's more. The state if Alabama seems to recognize their greatness, though.

The obvious and common key for all Arkansas fans' irrational hatreds is: "Did they leave Arkansas?"

Arky is like WV. Both are crab bucket states. Recruits, coaches, whatever.

i had thanksgiving dinner with 4 current ua students, 4 graduates, 8 life long hog fans and probably a few future ua students and not a one of those people wanted gus as our coach. and not a one of those people are rooting for auburn against mizzou either.

So this anecdote shows that pigs are largely bitter toward Gus for some reason and have let that interfere with good judgment?
