I'll give you Robinson is a nice recruit. But Basketball recruiting isn't football. There are only 11 ships so about 3 a year. A guy ranked #75 is akin to a guy ranked #400-500 in football. It's a good player, but hardly a great one.

Caruso - other offers: Neb, Col, Arz State
Reese - we hired his dad so hard to give Cyp a lot of credit there

Also, both Reese and Caruso were from BCS ffs. They are hardly recruiting coups. If all he's here for is to bring in recruits, the results aren't showing.

well if we are going by down right elite recruits, then yea we are yet to bring in elite talent. my comments weren't a comment on cyp and were more of just examples of "decent" players we have brought in

Wow, even Jorts has flipped. This is bad.

Of course, Cyp was his buddy in the program. He has lost all access now and can't act like he is a bigshot insider anymore.

Yeah, but this little tantrum is apparently about Cyprien. Everyone has raved on his recruiting. That's his forte, not Xs and Os. Where is it then? I guess I don't see the big deal. We aren't recruiting anyway, might as well hire an arse't that can teach Xs and Os.

Yeah this kind of seems like a popularity contest. Everyone is upset because they liked Cyp but they don't really have a reason why.

The bigger problem is that depending on your view, the ship is either sinking or sunk, and this season, we lost two of the guys who were trying (failing) to bail water out.

Right now, the only assistant coach on the roster is a guy that wasn't a coach in any capacity a few years ago. So he'll be teaching fundamentals along with a fellow who has a disease that makes it hard to focus on details.

2014-15 is going to be brutal.

tmc, I think you are missing something:

Our coach got diagnosed with Parkinsons.

I amazed at the recruits we did get. This has kinda been a disaster from the start and Cy seemed like the lone bright spot by pulling OK recruits or whatever instead of crap.

Why exactly is he a bright spot? Whatever the reason, he hasn't pulled in recruits and without doing that, he has very little value to the program. Just seems like a non-event.

OK, good point. Not like he wouldn't have been canned if BK was canned anyway.

I agree that Reese and Caruso, although highly rated, were hardly recruiting coups. It's not too hard to recruit someone when you hire someone's father (Reese) to be an assistant coach or someone who was raised an Aggie and whose father worked for the university (Caruso).

Robinson is a recruiting coup. He masks our otherwise weak '14 class and brought our overall class ranking to the middle of the pack in the SEC.

Cyprien was one of the lone bright spots in our basketball program. Cyprien is a decent recruiter but even the best salesman would have a difficult time in landing a recruit given the current nature of our program. I'm sure there are other examples but Cyprien was the main reason why Jamal Jones chose A&M.

Dude Cyp is... well was, recruiting for a mediocre coach who made his name in a 1-bid league. Oh and by the way, said coach has a severe degenerative disease!

Given all that I'd say Cyp was a borderline miracle worker.

He said it would be worse than Melvin. The only thing worse than Melvin is Pat Knight. Ergo, our boys are going to have a shite ton of fun next year.

This is pretty much how I feel. Though, I'd obviously prefer to burn down the entire coaching staff. But to just fire cyprien seems bizarre.

Hyman.

miracle worker? Seriously?

I'm not hating on the guy. I agree he's had a tough job. But tough or no, he hasn't done anything. Everyone wants to crown him yet can't point to a single accomplishment in 3 fricking years.

Based on what y'all have posted, it seems his best (and only) accomplishment during that 3 years is not being Billy Kennedy. I just fail to see that as any kind of loss.

He's recruited on an average level over the past 3 years. Given the resources he had to work with (a coach with no real track record of success, who suffers from PD, an abysmal record at A&M, a sense that the program is on the way down) and his recruiting is a bit more impressive.
