You talk about Saban a lot. Why don't you just go blow that midget and GTFO.

Just making a point at the caliber of coach Grantham is, and we're lucky to have him.
By the way, when we end up in the SEC championship we'll take Bama to the woodshed. We're better this year, and will have a MUCH better game plan. Watch and see.

It took losing games to get rid of Martinez. I never claimed that throwing Grantham's fat arse into the volcano would exorcise the demons. As for questioning someone else's fandom, that's just stupid. Apparently in your zeal to challenge my DawgNation citizenship, you missed the key word "almost" in my post. I don't want us to lose ANY of our games, but there comes a point when someone must become realistic and question what the biggest liability of the team is, and whether or not that liability is the reason that the results don't hold up to the goal. When we lost last year, it was because of deplorable DL play. Solution: New DL coach. 2013 Dawgs appear to be better at stopping the run.
FACT: Without the DL playing like hammered dog shite in the SECCG, Alabama doesn't put up 350+ yards on the ground, and almost without question doesn't win. Old DL coach is able to take new job 3 hours away with no fight put up by Butts-Mehre. New DL coach comes in with different philosophy and has been better at stopping the run with "inferior" talent.
If the previous biggest liability is fixed, then you move to the next issue. The kids on defense look utterly LOST. They're not in position, they're constantly looking to the sidelines, and often they're just jogging around while folks trot to the end zone with the ball. You can only blame Lakatos so much for the secondary's inexperience and underperformance. Anything beyond that has to go to Grantham and his Wile E. Coyote-style NFL defense.

I get where you are trying to go with your "Saban tried to get him" allusion, but it makes it look like you think Saban doesn't make mistakes. He does. He's human. Damn good, but human. I think he's probably over there thinking "Hmmm...glad that whole Grantham thing didn't work out"
And as far as that bit about woodshedding Bama in the SECCG, please. At this rate we will be lucky to get there. And if we do, why do you think we'll have a better chance with less talented WR's, a much worse defense, and one very talented RB?

The thing that bothers me the most with this statement is that he's acting like he just stepped off a bus last summer and started coaching a bunch of new recruits.
We all knew that we'd have a young defense but good lord, how do you allow yourself to get so thin that the talent level drops off this much? I can't believe how lost we look out there and how few mid-classmen we had that could at least step in and know what to do.
I guess this is what happens when you keep 15 or so scholly's in your back pocket.

Underachieves? Are you friggin kidding me? We were on the damn 5 yards away from winning it all last year!!!!!
Why don't you do yourself a favor and Google Richts all time winning percentage, 10 win seasons, against other SEC teams, INCLUDING Saban. He has beat him more so you could argue that he's a better coach.
The loser's mentality is strong in this one. Losing is never ok. Ever. GTFO with that "only 5 yards short" moral victory nonsense.

This all sounds exactly like the ranting before Willie Martinez was fired. Say they fire Grantham, and the next guy's defense is just as bad? How often do we just burn through coordinators?

If you refer to my previous post, you will see that I do not advocate firing him....yet.

There is a lot of sense in this sentence.

We hire and fire until we find one who won't give up 40 pts an outing.

Response to the "only 5 yards away" statement:
We shouldn't have been in a position to come from behind and win it from 5 years away. We were winning the game and then our defense fell apart and let Alabama have their way with them. Our D-Line was awful and set us up to get burned on that last TD pass.
Our offense and special teams did everything they could do to win that game and our defense put the offense in a position where it had to win with 5 seconds left.

Bingo! You just don't stick with somebody because they're a good person, or that you've known them for 20 years. You find someone who can get the job done. 2011 was an apparent aberration in Grantham's tenure that was attributed more to the sheer talent of the players rather than the brilliance of his scheme.

I've already expressed my opinion on why our Defense will be better, but in regards to the rest of your question our "one very talented RB" just happens to be the top RB in the nation. And that's just not my opinion, but shared by the national media as well. Murray will overcome not having Mitchell, and Conley will end the season as one of the top receivers in the nation. We've seen flashes of his greatness, but look for the chemistry between him and Murray to really improve as the year goes on.

If you go the route of hiring and firing non-stop, the good coordinator you finally land won't have any good players to coach. Recruits run away from that kind of unstable environment. Catch 22.

I have not been overly impressed with Grantham's personality, coaching, or achievement.
This isn't personal, it is just business. He isn't getting it done.
With Bobo and Richt it is usually about personality, play calling, etc but rarely about "coaching".
My general issue with Grantham is that he doesn't appear to have to correct combination of skills to get our guys to achieve.
At the moment, he is our favorite punching bag taking hits over a frustrating loss to a team we should NEVER have lost to.
I saw our guys playing hard but as usual this year out of position and confused.
At the end of the year, he should take the high road and seek out another pro opportunity.

frick lets do something. I'd rather take a chance on a new guy then expect Grantham to change anything.
Let me lay it out for some of you.
Last year and through 1/2 of this year we had the offense to win a national title, no one will dispute that.
Neither last year nor this year has the defense been mid SEC-level much less national title level and with a ton of NFL talent to boot.
The defense is bad and had been for awhile. Whether you are disney, negative, or realist, it does not change the fact that Grantham has been a bust.
Pre-Excuse Makers Q&A:
1) Its youth! No the frick its not, we are half way through the season and have made ZERO improvement in the secondary. Also, who's fault is it that we didn't develop talent last year? Both fall on Grantham.
2) Scheme is complicated, give them time! No...if the scheme is too complicated, then fricking change that shite. This also falls on Grantham.
3) Its talent! Who the fricks fault is that?! Grantham is responsible for evaluating and recruiting defensive talent. If those guys suck arse, then thats also his fault.
4) Its Lakatos' fault! Whos fault is that? Its up to Grantham to cut the fat on his coaching staff. IF the mother fricker isnt doing his job, either get rid of him or take over the job...either way Grantham.
At no point is any of this NOT Grantham's fault so frick anyone who says else wise.

I agree, when healthy, Gurley is the best in the nation, but I've seen the guy tap out of games from fatigue a hundred times. As good as he is, he gets tired, and I don't want Brendan Douglass fumbling the damn game away.

This is Georgia. Recruiting is the easy part. Grantham is hardly involved with that anyway. Bobo and BMac recruit way more on D than TG does.
We know the status quo isn't good enough. Fear of the unknown is not a good reason to stand pat and allow a group of future NFL players to be so poor as a unit
