This is just a sad and deeply disturbing incident. Everyone should be able to safely go on a road trip and support their team. Just terrible.

T&P to the victim, his family, and the people of Ole Miss.

I'll prolly get flamed for this, so ill qualify what I'm about to say as strongly and prominently as possible by saying NO ONE DESERVES TO GET BEAT TO DEATH in the name of fan rivalry.

That said , I just don't see an Austin green haired weirdo kicking arse over someone wearing a rebel shirt, and I have to believe that at 2am, what possibly may have happened is that a young drunk rebel fan ran just a little too much mouth.

Ole miss was riding high after that game, and I can absolutely see a drunk Johnny reb running just a hair too much mouth, such that a drunk Texan shut him up.

If that's not what happened, I apologize. And if it did happen that way, it's still a tragedy.

Now here is a reasoned response to my post. But ill as I've been to many a game in Austin when I was at fort hood with colleagues also officers who were grads of schools the fake UT (knoxville being the real one IMHO) was playing and we went out on 6th after the game. This was in the mackovic era so UT usually was the loser and they got real celebratory military adrenalin jacked up belligerent. The fans in Austin were always very classy, fun and a blast. There's were frat hangouts too (we weren't that long out of college). No one gave us any beyond normal shite. So I think this had to be a none UT affiliated dirtbag or just a unlucky punch gone horribly wrong punch the puncher never intended to be more than a black eye.

In the heart of the red light district on a Friday night. The game hadn't even been played.

This was a stupid fight with a tragic outcome. This could've happened just as easily in Chicago or New Orleans in the middle of June. This wasn't some incident that should be used as a referendum on the dangers of traveling to a sporting event

Man I hope he's okay. Some people just can't handle what alcohol does to them. Some people need to learn that it's only a game, and to learn when to walk away.

Incident happened the night before the game

It likely had nothing to do with either fan base and was an isolated incident

Stop blaming the Texas fans for this. This is not like the Giants fan who got beat up after a game at Dodger Stadium.

Fights happen all the time on 6th street when people are drunk. It happened Friday night. It seems pretty likely that the altercation had nothing to do with sports.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the kid.

Surgery was 30 hours ago? It hasn't been 24 hours since the game ended, are we sure this is a legit update?

Happened the night before the game, so yes.

Anyone pretending that this is unique to a single fan base isn't being honest at all. Youth, testosterone, & aggression make a dangerous cocktail, no matter what colors you're wearing. In fact, you can go to a bar district in any town or city, whether there's a college there or not, and see drunk people getting into fights over mindblowingly stupid shite.

It's a damn shame that this kid hit his head and was majorly injured. I hope he's alright.

I own a business in Brunswick. And I can tell you that some of the most hardcore meth head rednecks on the planet are from the N Fl, S GA area. So what's your point?

Funny how aggy losers on page 1-4 were quick to shite on Texas and their "horrible" fan base before even waiting for the facts.

Has there been any indication that this had anything to do with the OM/TX game? Still nothing on the innerwebs about this.
