Someone earlier had asked about what it would take to have a top 20 class. I messed around with 247's class calculator a bit and added to our class some kids that I would like to think Mizzou should be in position to land to see what it would do for our score. Obviously, we're not getting these kids but they're kids we should be able to get. I added:

Terry Beckner (Current leader)
Raequan Williams (Longshot but the kind of kid we should pursue)
Hale Hentges (In state)
Alex Ofodile (In state)
Carlos Davis (In state)
Khalil Davis (In state)
Marquise Doherty (In state)
Anree St. Amour (One time interested)
Daniel Imatorbhebhe (One time commit)

Adding those 9 gave us a score that would have ranked us 13 currently. Obviously, others scores will go up as they add recruits too, but that might be good enough alone to keep us in the top 20. It also gives us 22 recruits. If we processed, with at least 1 early enrollee, meaning actually 21 in this class. If we processed 4 kids and added 4 more kids to this class, we could continue to move up or maintain our position as others add recruits too.

I can't determine if 247 or Rivals value raw number of recruits vs stars more, both seem to have some really highly ranked teams that are mostly just huge piles of 3 stars.

I know some teams always seem to have larger than normal classes due to the way they "process out" the players who aren't cutting it. Classes that go past the normal 25 recruits per year get extra value, I suppose the talked about, proposed "4 year scholarship" might be something of a counter to this practice.

I know Saban takes a lot of criticism for this practice, but as long as he gets away with it he will do it, and as long as recruits are willing to risk making the squad at Bama, it seems he will. If Hentges gets "processed out" he really has no one to blame but himself.

No doubt that raw volume of commits affects 247 class rankings. I couldn't sort it by average ratings, but looking at it manually, it seemed we were in the upper 20's as opposed to upper 40's. Not bad with the class we have so far.

Three 4*'s out of thirteen commits helps that average. That's why I say I like our class so far, but hope we can finish strong instead of fizzling out.

look at where Rivals has Wisconsin, they have exactly 1 4 star(no 5 stars) and at least as many 2 stars as us, and are still well ahead of us. I think they may be worse than 247..

That's my point about recruiting rankings. When you forget the rankings and actually look at the recruits, number 10 has about the same number of highly rated recruits as number 30.

By the way, can we just raid Wisconsin's recruits now?

I think Rivals takes the top 21-22 commits for their class ranking.

Not sure how 247 does it.

Rivals takes the top 20 recruits from each class to calculate the rank. 247 uses all of the kids I believe. So class size counts more on 247 I believe than Rivals. I have no idea how ESPN calculates it's class ranks.

Wisconsin DE commit and Mizzou target Nate Howard's RT

.@SEC Coach of the Year... #Mizzou's @GaryPinkel! Retweet to congratulate the Tiger HC on another great season. #MIZ

also

And people always questioned why I stayed open to other schools and coaches despite being committed...never know what will happen...

I think we'll get him, the Davis twins and Beckner.

So Beckner took an OV to FSU a week or so ago, I think. He has an OV to tOSU set for 1/23 and an OV to Mizzou set 1/30.

Has he gone on or set any other OV's? Did he go to Oregon? Or was he just up there for that camp?

Does that mean they stick with NU? I don't know.

I just wish these kids and families would be consistent in their recruiting interviews and what they say to reporters.

Who knows at this point. If they keep their visit to Mizzou, I'd say we got a great chance.

FSU added top DE Josh Sweat today. Do they still have a spot/need for Beckner now? Might be an added positive for us.

I think Beckner is one of those recruits you find a way to make room for. Couldn't imagine any program telling him they are full.

I would doubt FSU would say no. But what I imagine it does is it results in FSU not showing the same level of love as if Sweat committed elsewhere. If Sweat had gone elsewhere, we might see FSU putting on the full court pressure.

Just saw tOSU already has 4 DE commits in this class. They should just move on and cancel Beckner's visit.
