talking about games from a decade ago doesn't have any bearing on who's "ahead of everyone else" right now
Except they all have something in common..

Bama is on another level right now. That doesn't mean that someone like LSU or UGA can't jump up there and take their spot soon. We'll just have to wait and see what happens, that's why SEC football is second to none.

When half your team was paid like they were in the NFL it's not so hard to do when going against amateurs. See Marcus Dupree, Brian Bozworth and otherss

Everybody was doing it back then.

Do you truly believe that A&M was that much better simply because they had an SEC patch on their uniform? After just one offseason of being in the conference? Really? Not because of Sumlin or Johnny Football?

And hell yeah we paid athletes back then, but here's the kicker: EVERYONE ELSE DID TOO. To suggest that we were paying players and everyone else were "amateurs" is laughable. Wasn't MSU one of the bidders on Cam Newton?

You can bet they were one of the bidders for Marcus Dupree.

You're usually a pretty big tool on here but I agree totally. What Stoops and this extremely biased author and his ilk may mention but basically gloss over is the absolute supremecy of the whole top tier of the SEC compared to that of the other conferences. 4 different SEC schools have won NC's the last 7 years. 4 different schools over a 4 year stretch ending in '10. That is phenomenal parity at the top, unmatched anywhere else in the country. Add 5 more SEC schools who have one at some point. Only two of the 2012 Big 12 schools have won an NC. Ever. This vast gulf plays a large role in the relative lack of success for the SEC schools without the resources (or desire) to compete at that level.

I like you.

i don't think so, Judy.

Oklahoma won't leave Texas bc they're scared. A&M has balls. Transvestite balls, but they're hairy dragging balls. Oklahoma has sealed their fate for the next decade or two as being a little bitchboy. I liken Oklahoma to Squeak from BASEketball.

Yea, it's foolish to not think everyone isn't dirty in some fashion. Some may just be more blatant about it(SMU)
It's easy to say athletes should be paid(and I can understand that argument), but then there will be an even wider divide between the have's have-not's.
Not to mention you run into Title IX issues.

I don't think Johnny Football and Kevin Sumlin were playing defense. I think playing in the SEC made us well suited to stop Belldozer, something no one you faced came close to doing. I think playing in the SEC made us come in to our own, and made us battle tested by the time we got to y'all. Had we played in the Big 12, I don't know if Johnny would have developed as fast as he did either. Iron sharpens iron. The A&M team that suited up against the Gators was not on the same level as the one that played the Sooners. I think there is something to be said for the toughness of the SEC schedule. I truly do. Sure, Arkansas and Auburn weren't great, but LSU, Alabama, Florida, hell even Ole Miss were all tough games. But that Oklahoma defense is one of the worst I've seen in a very long time, and I watched quite a few OU games(I always do they are my second most watched team bar none, too many Sooner ties not to.) So maybe it simply was Johnny. Although we did hold y'all to 13 points, and despite what some people think, Manziel didn't play safety.

The thing of it is this. As the "Tide Rises" it brings all the other schools up with it. Vandy is forced to try harder. State is forced to try harder. Ole Miss is forced to try harder so on and so forth. It's a functional relationship with proceeds going to benefit all. The Big12 is like the bipolar chick that is on her 4th husband. Texas is a cancer and every other school does what they tell them to. Texas is toxic and has destroyed a once strong conference. The fact that as soon as aTm bolted they exploded with success is evidence that the SEC is just a better model for the shared success of the conference. SEC football has turned into a multi billion dollar industry when all is said and done. It is what the nation wants to see on Saturdays. No one gives a flying frick about USC and Oregon and Texas and OU any more.

Well this part is patently false, but I agree with some of the other things you said.

This makes more sense as to why you always speak up whenever OU is mentioned on this board.

I see his point about JFF and Sumlin, but you said it great. Sure someone else hasn't taken over your TD account today?

Oh, I agree that the Aggies were a tougher team in the Cotton Bowl, due to playing in the SEC. But they still played Florida a hell of a lot closer than they would have in 2011. I just don't think the SEC can take credit for A&M's success LAST YEAR. By all means, take credit for their success going forward, since their recruiting has obviously spiked. And yes, our defense was awful, although I thought we played well in the first half against y'all. Then the floodgates opened.

I am always like this, but when this place is a constant Nick Saban circle jerk, or "har har har y'all finished third place in the West, you're basically Arkansas" you will see equally retarded and shallow comments in the opposite direction.

Kept it close, but that was a flukey INT in the endzone, and had that been a TD, it could have opened up even sooner. Y'alls front seven lacked anything close to a playmaker. You weren't stopping Johnny more than 2 or 3 series.

Fair enough
I still will say you finished 3rd in the West.
quote:

I WON'T SAY THAT. I'm not stupid. It will be a great battle most every year between Bama, LSU, and A&M(and take no offense when I call yall the Shelties, I own one, and I hate the question, "Is that a miniature Collie?")
I also can't wait till I have a chance to visit Kyle field. That is why I don't want our game Thanksgiving weekend, it will make it much tougher. I want to see the Reveille graves. I want to see the bonfire memorial(one of the victims went to my high school while I was there if he went all 4 years)

But top 5 in the country, well ahead of Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College.

I've never been to Death Valley. I can't wait for that either. I love getting waster in New Orleans, and love most Louisiana coon asses in general.

Pretty sure Ok doesn't give a shite about any bowls as of late. They've gotten rocked pretty good the past few years.
