Agree

They should dump the dog bones on the helmets and just make rings for every good play that happens. It's just like in Girl Scouts. "Oh you made pudding? Here's your Master Chef patch."

richt is kinda like a girl scout troop leader, i think the patches idea could really catch on. and the players should love the continued arse kissing and coddling

You're right. Richt has a vagina and resembles a girl scout leader. No coach worth a shite would ever stoop to giving out division champion rings...............
Wait a minute..........
Urban Meyer gives out rings at Ohio State for winning the Leaders division of the Big 10 last year???.....
That's fricked up.
And look at Les Miles celebrating a #2 National ranking in 2012..........
And you don't even want to know what that hack Steve Spurrier has been giving out rings for at Carolina...........
The fricking girl scouts are ruining college football! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
RUN for your lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could give 2 shits what these other schools do but this does explain why LSU has lost their edge.
But you can sugar coat it however you want. Trophies for 2nd place will always be a waste IMO.

But, the rings are for 1st place. Of the SEC East division.

To me, it has nothing to do with whether the players are paid or not. It's just my opinion, but I don't think the bling-rings should be handed out for anything less than a championship. If the goal is to reward broke college players, they might as well start handing those out in the spring for most improved walk-on or something like that.
Well, as much as some fans enjoy cheapening and scoffing at the accomplishment of these players (as though they could do better
You guys need to keep in mind that some of these kids will not ever play this game after college. This ring represents their greatest accomplishment in the game and I think they should have some souvenir of this if they want it. It would be a little weird if we did something like put the score of the UF game on the side or had our record prominently displayed. However, people screaming about how these kids don't deserve it or that it is embarrassing are taking this stuff WAY too seriously.
Besides, if any SECCG runner up has ever truly deserved rings for their performance, it was this team after putting on the best SECCG in history.

They won a championship last year?

I like how you're defending these moral victory rings.

I don't think anyone is "cheapening and scoffing at the accomplishment of these players". I certainly am not. I'm extremely proud of last season, and I held my head high after the painful loss in the SECCG because I knew that team did not choke or give up. They were 5 yards away from beating the soon-to-be national champs and were beat on a tipped pass by a good defensive player.
With that said, it's my opinion that rings like that should be given to conference champions or national champions, not division champions or the champions of the state of Georgia. There are many ways to reward players for having a stellar season, but, to me, fancy rings belong to with championships: World Series, Super Bowl, etc.
I don't think rings should be given out because players are broke (as alluded to earlier) or because they probably won't do anything like that again after college, or for any other reason besides winning a real championship. That doesn't mean that players can't get kudos or formerly recognized in some other way.
I'm fine with having an honorary UGA day to recognize the division champs, or a banner (like I said earlier), or plaques, or a parade around the University or something else. I just associate championship rings with actual championships. If we had a division championship game and gave rings to the winner, then I'd be ok with that, but we don't have one of those. We have a conference championship and a "national championship", and the winners deserve rings and crystal balls and Subway sandwiches for life and whatever other honors you want to hand out for those, but a division win is small potatoes compared to those and should not be rewarded with the symbol of a real championship.
Again, I don't want to diminish the team, the players, the coaches, and the overall season, but I don't think rings are an appropriate form of recognition for what the team actually accomplished.

question:
do NFL teams get rings for winning the AFC or NFC or for their division?
just wondering..

UNC has to be the worst...3 way tie and an 8-4 record on the ring...
Posted on 5/2/13 at 3:45 pm to SthGADawg
I think there are conference champion rings in the NFL but not division. I could be wrong, but even if they did hand those out, I still don't think rings should be given for a division champion.
