If the report is true, coaches at the top of the search list would include Shaka Smart and Anthony Grant — both of whom worked for Teague at VCU. Smart is still the coach at VCU, while Grant is the head coach now at Alabama.

It is being reported that Minnesota has fired Tubby Smith a day after being eliminated from the NCAA Tournamnet. According to this link it appears that Anthony Grant may be on their short list of replacements. Do you think he would go?

If he did, who would you like to hire as his replacement?

If Grant is hired away, we should go after Bruce Pearl.

Firing Tubby was really fricking stupid on their part. He's a crappy recruiter but he knows his Xs and Os pretty well. It's fricking Minnesota. Given their conference, they should be happy just making the field half the time and winning a game or two every few years.

If Grant bolts we need to pay Gregg Marshall.

Personally, I think Grant will stay. I truly believe he wants to build a similar program to that of Florida and his mentor, Donovan. If a new arena were built I think it would help either Grant or a new coach.

I'm just a little confused as to why they would fire Tubby for CAG other than the prior relationship with Teague. IMO what Tubby has accomplished at Minnesota is slightly more impressive than what CAG has done at Bama.

Whether or not CAG would accept it IDK. I view Minnesota as being similar to Alabama in that it has a decent basketball history but is currently a tier 2 job at best for a bball coach. It's definitely a step up in terms of conference and probably has better fan support.

Marshall I guess. Not sure I think he'd come though.

Pearl will most likely end up taking a job at a small school to work his way back up. I would be beyond shocked if he was even a serious candidate.

I guess Enfield will be the hottest name.

I don't see Grant leaving for Minnesota. That would be a lateral move at best.

I have been in the "Give him one more year" camp until last night.

I got to go to the game last night, and while the effort on defense was as good as you could ask for, the players basically have no clue what to do on offense. The aggressive hustle on defense flips to jogging through cuts and lanes on offense.

And a glaring example last night that you don't always see on TV was basic stuff that I knew playing Jr high ball. The lane violation is an example, but, every time Maryland lined up to shoot a freethrow, the Bama players couldn't figure out how to line up. I love Randolph's efforts but EVERY time they lined up, he was asking Releford or the other players where to line up and who to block out. It may be an on-court call, but, he wasn't getting an answer which tells me either Releford or whoever didn't know or wasn't communicating. LR looked very frustrated and I noticed that when that happened, he seemed affected by it on the opposite end.

That may seem trivial, but, that's the kind of stuff that they should already know.

And I know now how to defend Bama's offense. Put your tallest line up out front and Bama will play (and struggle to do that) lob the ball over the big guys all night.

Even with the hustle on D, it took a half before Grant figured out how to stop Maryland from driving all the way down the court and into the lane.

I can live with hustle and trying hard but losing because of talent. Watching everyone act like they don't know what they're supposed to do is a different thing, especially when most of the players have had at least 2 years under Grant.
