Billy Kennedy was a fairly hot name who was considered a pretty good hire at the time. He did build a pretty good program at Murray State. Maybe he won't work out for A&M, but it's honestly WAY too early to tell. He hasn't even finished his second season, yet you're acting like you know he's a terrible coach. He may well prove to be one in time, but give me a break.

It's not "way too early to tell".
Final year of Watkins: 7-21 (0-17)
First year of Gillispie: 21-10 (8-8)
Net change: +14 (+8)
Final year of Gillispie: 27-7 (13-3)
First year of Turgeon: 25-11 (8-8)
Net change: -2 (-5)
Final year of Turgeon: 24-9 (10-6)
First year of Kennedy: 14-18 (4-14)
Net change: -10 (-6)
Kennedy still has to win 1 more conference game this season to reach the mark in conference wins that Gillispie and Turgeon AVERAGED. (he has 9 total conference wins in 2 seasons, they averaged 10-11 a season)
Losses to Pomeroy 100+
Gillispie/Turgeon = 0
Kennedy = 7
Nonconference home losses
Gillispie/Turgeon = 1 (that includes games against Arizona, St. Louis, LSU, and the one loss was in the NIT against St. Joe's)
Kennedy = 2 (Rice and Southern)

I'd rather that shot come in the finals.

Basketball isn't played in a vacuum. Each situation and squad that each coach inherited was different.
Again... He hasn't even finished his second season. It's too early. If you fire a coach two years into a rebuilding project, you're setting a pretty scary precedent. He may not amount to much, but you have to give him a third year. A&M isn't exactly the school that can afford to fire a coach after two seasons and still expect coaches to want to coach there.

What LSU has a basketball team too. (WOW) (LOL)We are going to be tough next year, playing much better than at beginning of season. Hopefully a team like LSU UT BAMA or UK will win the Tourney giving the SEC three or four teams in the NCAA

I also have to disagree from personal experience. A Missouri redneck yelled at me "frick you you guys are fricking terrible" yesterday.
I would say the same thing to you. Why do you deserve any respect? frick you.

Ummm..no, wrong. We beat VCU on a neutral court at the Battle 4 Atlantis tourney.
We beat Illinois in our annual rivalry game in St Louis. A neutral court as Illinois borders us and it's always a 50/50 crowd.
Those two errors may not seem like much, but it does make our schedule harder, for the record.

If Ole Miss gets their shite together they should be in.

Actually, our best (long) shot at the tourney may be drawing Florida, giving us a chance to beat them on a neutral floor with all the Kentucky fans pulling for us.
By the time Alabama gets Florida, there won't be any Kentucky fans left in Nashville.

He'll get a third year, but that's only prolonging the inevitable. Just like we knew Sherman wasn't the answer after year two, it's pretty obvious that Kennedy isn't the answer.

I don't think Ole Miss is a lock. If they are currently "In" the field, they have got to be one of the last teams in, meaning they'd be a 12-seed.
They only have 1 win over a team that is a lock to be an at-large in the NCAA Tournament.... and it was against a Missouri team that can't seem to beat anyone on the road, so I'm not sure that counts for much.
The only great thing Ole Miss has going for them is they don't have any bad losses. That may be enough to get them in, but in past seasons, that hasn't always been enough for the selection committee.

Agree that Ole Miss is far from a lock but they're probably a bit more safely in the 9-10 range at this point.
They're resume so far is kind of weak as you point out but the positives you mention still look better than most other "bubble" teams they're up against like, say, St Johns (with losses to SF and NC Ashville) or Indiana St (whom they beat) just for example.
When pointing out the blemishes with teams the catch is that once you're down to 10-12 seeds there's not any teams left that don't have a ton of them.
I'd imagine they're safely in if they just manage to finish 4-2 against the rest of their schedule.
Alabama probably has to beat Florida in the tourney (assuming they have little chance @UF). The only other way may be winning out aside from Florida and making the SEC tourney final including a W over Mizzou at least but that would mean getting help from other bubble teams.

If A&M sweeps Ole Miss, that will kill their tournament chances.
Posted on 2/18/13 at 1:34 pm to CGSC Lobotomy
I doubt A&M will be able to beat Ole Miss at Ole Miss. Winning on your home court is one thing; winning on another's is a different story entirely.
Even so, A&M still isn't considered a bad loss and won't be unless they completely collapse. The only way that A&M finishes with an RPI of over 100 is if they finish out 1-5, which is unlikely with home games against South Carolina and LSU coming up, as well as a road game against Auburn.

The SEC only has one lock right now. Mizzou isn't quite a bubble team at this point, but they aren't a lock either. Ole Miss is still in, but they don't have much margin for error or bad losses, which is why being handed that game at home against UGA was so huge for them. ALabama and Kentucky still have a shot, but are on the outside right now.

Records below are assuming teams win HOME games against teams in the bottom half of the current standings. It breaks down like this (Florida...you're in so I didn't do yours).
UK 19-8 with MU/@Ark/@UGA/UF.
OM 21-6 with @USC/@MSU/Bama/@LSU
UA 20-8 with @LSU/@UF/@OM
MU 19-7 with UF/@UK/@USC/Arky/@UT
Ark 18-9 with @UF/@LSU/UK/@MU
I would have penciled in UK with Noel but their path is obviously harder without him. Would beating UGA and winning 2 in the SECt(22 wins overall) get them in? They have the SOS etc. going for them.
Ole Miss seems to have the easiest path. Though they played no one OOC, record will be good enough to get in.
Bama doesn't have UK's SOS etc. so I think them winning one of those remaining games is a must, plus a couple SECt games.
If MU can win 3 of those 5 games, they're in regardless of SECt wins. @USC? Arky at home? Then what? Home court enough to beat Florida? Can they beat UK or UT on the road? If none of those 3 happen, a win or 2 in the SECt still gets MU in.
Arky, win all of them and you're in. Lose one and you probably need a couple of SECt wins. Lose 2 and you're NIT bound.

I think with the win last night, it's all academic. We'd have to shite the bed to not make it now.
