Obviously the misunderstanding here is when the conference agreement was signed. It would be a non issue if it was signed in December. The issue is that it was signed when he was placed at Hargrave.
The CL wording is confusing. It says OM found out about it earlier this month, not that he signed it earlier this month.

Had Ole Miss known about the SEC agreement, it could have and likely would have presented that to Hill as well. Would he have signed it? We'll never know.
So basically, Bama knew the rules better than Ole Miss and took advantage of it.
As the unnamed compliance officer cited by the AJC said, Bama was smart to think of doing it.
Ole Miss didn't. End of story.

There is no issue because he signed it earlier this month as stated by the CL, Neal, the AJC, TideSports, and Hill himself.
He was not bound to Bama when he committed to Ole Miss. Ole Miss had Hill sign non-binding paperwork because apparently they were unaware that a Prep school player (unlike a high school senior enrolling early) can sign the binding SEC GIA. A month later he visited Bama, flipped, and signed the binding paperwork.

Show me where the CL said he signed it earlier this month.

Nope.

Hill, who verbally committed to Ole Miss in November and publicly said he was switching back to Alabama late last night, was apparently done with the recruiting process after he signed the paper in early December.

Yup.
I'm outta here.
Even though it was Germans for most of y'all, I appreciate that we finally ended up with a good discussion about what was actually reported.

They are referring to his FAA not his conference agreement.

Ok, and what is the next line in the CL piece after the sentence I quoted?

Hill signed with Alabama originally in the class of 2012, but did not qualify and enrolled at Hargrave Military Academy. He signed the agreement while at Hargrave, a source close to the Ole Miss program told the Clarion-Ledger, and it seems may have not realized exactly what it meant.
At Hargrave

That's not the next line. This is the next line:

That is the “mystery” paper we referenced in last night’s blog post
But I will agree that the CL appears to contradict itself on when the SEC GIA was signed. Although since he was still enrolled at Hargrave earlier this month, it's possible that there is no contradiction. At any rate, the CL never states that he signed anything binding him to Bama when he was placed or when he enrolled at Hargrave.

Well it's a circle. OM fans think he signed it before his commitment to OM. Bama fans think after. No way to know base on the information we have. Good discussion.

Ole Miss was ordered to stop recruiting Hill by its compliance office after it was revealed he had signed an SEC financial aid agreement with Alabama earlier this month, according to the Clarion-Ledger’s Hugh Kellenberger — and that was when Hill was still committed to Ole Miss.
So not the document he signed at Hargrave but the financial aid agreement he signed this month was when Ole Miss was told to lay off.
