Never say never, but I would be shocked. He would have complete control under Lombardi, however, I think he's done with the NFL.
If he were to go, then Smart would be then unanimous choice and I'd be completely fine with that. There would be no hard feelings.

Have you ever been to Cleveland? Besides Buffalo it may be the worse place to live in the U S.

It's just too easy to troll the shite out of this board...

I don't see it happening, but if it did I hope Bama fans don't act like cock suckers about it. You know, like LSU fans did.
LSU fans did not act like that when Saban left LSU for the Miami Dolphins. Disappointed, sure but we always knew he would leave for the NFL.
It was only after Saban returned to college football - to Alabama - a divisional rival - that LSU fans turned on Saban.

I fully believe that there's something in him that would like another shot in the NFL. If anything actually made him consider jumping, it would be the realization that if it's really something he wants to do, it's now or never. At 61, this would absolutely be his last chance to give it a go.
I agree with this. He may not necessarily want another shot at the NFL. I think he gave it a shot and absolutely hated it, so I don't think he would return. But I think he could possibly seek another challenge if the right offer is made at the right time. I would not have a problem with it. The Alabama program would be in such good shape that it would be the #1 desitination when open.
Still he's 61 and I think he'll coach 3-5 more years at Alabama.

It's not personal. It was business. Million dollar decisions. Opportunities to be a head coach at a place like Bama OR LSU aren't common.
Yeah, there may have been other jobs open, but why would a man choose to go somewhere that makes winning MORE difficult? To keep certain LSU fans from having the world's largest case of sour grapes?
Put yourself in the man's shoes. You get offered MILLIONS to coach at a -premier- college... and you KNOW it's the best option for your life and career... what circumstances to you turn that offer down?

It's a free country and he can obviously do what he wants, but don't all indignant when LSU fans react the way they do and don't want you back for anniversaries of the 01 or 03 teams and generally don't want you around the program in any way later in life.

Maybe so.. but it doesn't make those actions less childish or immature.
This far out, retrospect on this situation should be 20/20.. but it clearly isn't. I think the problem is immature and/or young fans that are being far too controlled by their emotions.
Had he left LSU directly for Bama OR had he deliberately sabotaged y'all's program on the way out somehow... then maybe I'd be inclined to think those feelings are well founded.
Idk, just blows my mind this is still being rationalized by so many.

It blows my mind that Alabama fans, a group that claims to be as passionate as any in the country, just can't understand how LSU fans would be upset at how the whole thing went down.
He didn't even get fired by the Dolphins, dude QUIT his NFL "challenge" to come back and compete directly with us.

Point is Saban held LSU hostage until Christmas Eve when all reports doing october of that same year had him flirting with the NFL. And it just was a matter of the right offer. But he knew he was gone wayyyy before December 24. By the way that is the same year Lou Holtz stepped down at USCe and recommended Spurrier.
Now just think at the time this happenned if Spurrier had a choice between LSU and USCe. Heck Saban even recommended Houston Dale Nutt as his successor.

I'll never understand why some people still can't figure this out.

I think we HAVE proven to be as passionate as any fan-base. Look at how we pack out spring practice. We don't claim to be passionate. We do what fans can do to show our support... buy tickets, GO to games, yell... buy the billions of shirts.
It's asinine how much judgement gets poured on any coach for a change of course. It is life meeting business. The people that don't get that are chock full of their own myopic mental constructions.
This is the real world. Hard to argue that it was a bad choice.
Anyone that says they'd do differently than he did needs to seriously consider examining themselves for honesty. It really is irrational to think poorly of a man doing what's best for his life and his children and grandchildren's futures.
Get a grip!

Again, he is free to do what he wants to do, but don't act like we're the ones with the problem when we react the way we do. You know how it's going to be when you make that decision. You're burning a bridge when you make that decision. That's fine if that's what you want to do, but own it and just accept that this is the way it is.

Yeah Saban's family was really going to end up in the welfare line if he didn't go to Alabama.

I really don't think he is going either but you've to think it is eating him up that Carroll,Harbaugh and Schiano are having so much success so soon after making the jumP and he failed in his previous attempt.
