Here's my theory on the longsnapper thing. We've brought in a shite ton of great high school punters/kickers over the last few years and it never seems to matter. We also brought in a ton of "special teams consultants" over the summer(which seemed to completely turn around our punting game and kicking somewhat but we just scored a lot more touchdowns this year instead)
I'm guessing one of these guys told the coaching staff that part of the problem was long snapping. If the ball isn't back there quick and placed early then it throws off timing which throws off everything. It still sucks giving a longsnapper a scholarship, but i'm betting that's how it happened

I completely disagree... I think we just don't have anyone that the staff thinks can take over Carson Tinker's spot as well as him, and we have the luxury of using a scholly on a LS because of how stacked we are everywhere else.
Tinker has been a fine snapper for us. Our kicking problem is that the guy with the leg hasn't been that accurate up to this year and the guy that is accurate doesn't have the leg.

I've seen us have slightly high snaps. We also get a lot of kicks blocked. I won't shite on Tinker because he's been through a lot and he's done it mostly for free. But I can't imagine that if we think someone could do the job just as well while not on scholarship that they'd burn a scholarship
It's also important to note that there is someone I know who is connected to the team who says that per Jeremy Shelley's parents, NO special teams player is on scholarship until their senior year if there is one to be had. Says our staff doesnt do schollys to ST. Could be just what they told Shelley to get him to walk on. but he swears it up and down

IMO, the kicks we have had blocked have almost all been long kicks, where the kicker has to kick it low to get the distance.
Now some of those wouldn't be considered long, except that they where kicked by Shelly.
Think about the 9-6 LSU game. We tried 2 long ones with Foster and he missed. Then we tried a semi-long one with Shelly and it was blocked.
Same with the one in the NC game against LSU, it was semi long by Shelly and was blocked.
The long one blocked in the Georgia game was by Foster, but it was really long. Like 52 plus I believe.

Well that was probably the case when Shelly commited, but since then we have offered Schollys to at least three kickers and a punter. I think Corey Smith was the first, he sucked and transferred. Cade Foster got a Scholly out of High School and so did a punter Jay Williams. Adam Griffth got one last year.

Could be, but this was in response to me bitching about Goster getting a scholly. He said they said he's definitely not. They/he could be wrong. I don't really care as long as we don't run out of room and keep winning

Feeling pretty good this morning. I honestly didn't think Foster would pick us up until the moment he said it.
It's nice to have him back in the fold.
For now.

Some quotes from Reuben Foster (not premium content):
LINK
Auburn was truly in it until the end, and the home-town draw certainly played its part in the process.
For Foster, as he’s maintained throughout the process, the decision came from the heart.
Letters of intent cannot be faxed to schools until early Wednesday morning, so does Auburn or any other school have a chance to change Foster's mind before then?
Thoughts?

“It’s like a big tractor came off my back,” he said after two sighs. “The weight went on my back, like a tractor, and now the tractor just fell off. I can finally breathe, I can finally walk. It’s all over now.”
Auburn was truly in it until the end, and the home-town draw certainly played its part in the process.

“I felt mad pressure. It’s crazy how you lie in that town and you see so much love,” he admitted. “But when you get out of town and see the place you love, you’ll see it different. It’s how you feel in the moment there.”
For Foster, as he’s maintained throughout the process, the decision came from the heart.

“That really led me to Alabama,” he added. “It was like, ‘What do I really want to do? For my family ... What do I want to do? This is my decision, nobody else’s.’”

“No chance,” he said. “I don’t feel like going through the stress, pressure. I’m focused. I feel like (Auburn) had a good chance with me, but the stress and the pain and the suffering through recruiting, I want it to be all over. I wish Auburn well, but I have to do what’s best for me. I love Auburn, I love them dearly.”

We can't get his signature on that LOI fast enough.

I know we've :beatdeadhorse: on this topic. But in terms of numbers, Cook possibly sign and place or just place. Paige hasn't even taken his ACT I don't think so he is in the same boat? Walker jones grayshirt? We've got 23 commits, so that leaves two we can sign without grayshirting or sign and placing. Is that about right?

Have 23 commits
Looking like Cook and Paige are place guys
That's 4 spots (2 open + 2 becoming open)
Bozeman is a GS opening 1
5 spots
If need be Walker Jones (never mentioned anywhere but by fans) or possibly Grant Hill (who has offered) will move to campus and either GS or walk on
That's 6 spots
So left to sign is:
Alvin Kamara
Dee Liner
A'Shawn Robinson
Tony Conner
Eddie Vanderdoes
2 possibilities for final spot
Montravius Adams (Sarc is somewhat right, he and Foster weren't particularly close, but he did come back to Bama with RF this past weekend after Dismukesgate lol regardless staff feels extremely confident)
OR Jarran Reed
I have been bashed the past few days about being a serious sunshine pumper but keep this in mind, all this is a very strong possibility and Saban and our staff (with Lance and Kirby) are the best damn group of closers in cfb. We signed a stellar class the last time Lance was on staff a whole cycle in 08 and its no surprise to me that we are doing so again. I expect the whole class to finish witha MAJOR bang on Wed

Hey Bucc, How to you think the staff feels about Vanderdoes? Everyone keeps pumping UCLS and Notre Dame for him. Also, any more news on Connor?
Posted on 2/5/13 at 9:03 am to Crimsongreatness15
Want Vanderdoes in the worst way. He would be a beast at Bama....but I think he goes elsewhere in the end.
Think we miss on him and Conner. Sure hope am wrong.

Florida guys are saying Reed is there's.

Ahhh totally forgot about Bozeman
Posted on 2/5/13 at 9:11 am to TreyAnastasio
Not to fall into the "we didn't want him anyway" stereotype, but you have to think that Reed would commit to Bama if we had a spot for him after visiting us the last 2 weekends.
If he doesn't have a spot, I'd like to think that's because the staff feels very good about Vanderdoes, Adams, or Conner.
