Just curious, what do you guys think Mississippi State football fans should expect and want from their football program? I am a realist an know how difficult it is playing and recruiting against LSU and Alabama.

Just curious what yalls expectations would be for wins and recruiting year to year for Dan Mullen or whoever is our Head Football Coach.

Was it you, coonass, or both that said this offseason that "MSU's talent level will be on par with LSU and Bama this season"?

I can tell you one thing- it's not that grinding shite y'all pulled week 2.

You dug your own grave.

If I was a state fan, I would classify 8-4 as a very good year, and be happy with 7-5(depending on who you play from the east/their strength) with a bowl game win.

As long as no difficult OOC games are scheduled, it seems very reasonable and acheiveable.

As far as recruiting goes, top 50 seems like a reasonable expectation.

MSU might be able to succeed in a different conf, but too many big boys around.

I think you should expect to be a 6 win or better team 7 out of every 10 years. I think you should expect 7 wins every third year or so, and 8 or 9 wins should be a pleasant year. Mind, I think that slipping below these minimums shouldn't really be tolerated, and even meeting those expectations could and should be undermined if you were to get the short end vs. Ole Miss, but there is no reason you shouldn't be aspiring to be where Kentucky was during the Rich Brooks era's high point.

Depends on whether or not State falls behind Ole Miss in the facilities race.

State is already behind as far as location, although Starkville has improved a lot. And Ole Miss' campus looks nicer as well, although State has nothing to be ashamed of there, either.

But being behind in all three in a small state would be very bad.

MSU has the strength to do what they really want to do... but their problem is being in the SECw right this second.

it's extremely difficult for MSU to keep up with the big boys in the SEC in recruiting... and that's that.

past the recruiting, y'all should have ENOUGH resources to be able to be in good bowl games and even SECw contention here and again for sure.

recruiting is the hard thing for y'all.

Want: To win the National Championship like everyone.

Expect: Finishing no better than 3rd in the West.

Not flaming at all. Just what i really think. Same way I feel about us.

7 to 8 wins a year. A good year would be 9 wins. Going to a bowl game every year is not unrealistic, b/c you only have to win 6 games. It will be hard to any better than on a consistent basis with Bama and LSU getting a lot of the top talent in Miss.

I think a lot of this goes back to Mullen.

He gives the fans these expectations of an outstanding season and you want to believe the guy and should expect your team to perform to higher standards. You just don't need to sweat it when you lose a game due to the extremely talented teams in the SEC.

I thought State was going to have a real good season this year because I believed the hype and it has been a hard pill to swallow being 3-4 now.

Just wait for the new teams to come into the conference. The two more teams will bring teams who have always been average in the sec a new chance.

Also hope auburn and alabama get moved to the east and vandy moved in the west to make room for Missouri

If I was a State fan I would expect:

7-5/8-4 records annually
Decent bowl games annually
Top 20 in recruiting annually
top 25 finish annually with occassional dip into top 15

I would WANT:
9-3/10-2
January bowls annually
Do a better job of locking up Mississippi in recruiting and finish in top 15 annually in recruiting
Top 15 finishes annually with occassional dip into top 10

I think the "expectation" is more realistic than the "want", but the "want" is possible under right leadership (which isn't there...Mullen over-rated) and circumstances.

I think for MSU or Ole Miss the goal should be a bowl game every year with the possibility of lining up your talent for a run at the West once every five years or so. Ole Miss had this going with Cut but fired him after one losing season.

and hope the 3 elite programs in your division how down years.

I think ALL state fans should DEMAND that Mullins (Most OVER RATED coach in the SEC!) beat someone other than Ole Pi$$. Hanging your hat on beating the Black bears every year isn't saying much. Ole Pi$$ is like 0-10 in the last 10 SEC games they have played. Beating the worst team in the SEC year after year isn't saying much.

Start with winning a few SEC games, hell even the crappy east teams :)
