Pank have you read Boone's 5 year plan? Since youre the only guy who seems to not want to fire him on here I'd love to get your take on it

Ya these are fairly outdated numbers. Athens is actually at 114,000 now based on 2008 numbers.

Not to be picky but it's 93,215. The Tuscaloosa MSA is 210,839.

Laffy has better food, less crime, better women, more affluent, less traffic, etc. It beats BR in literally every way. If a real SEC school was there it would be top 3 in the SEC.

Really? I thought that area was bigger than NWA.

It's not part of the Birmingham-Hoover MSA. Which is about 1.5 million.

wait, isnt BR a few spots behind NOLA in murder rate, top 3 in worst teeth, and top 10 dangerous cities in the US? Why would it even be considered one of the best towns. I mean Im not very familiar with LA, but I gotta assume there are a lot nice smaller towns in the state.

never said that. I just don't blame him every time it rains.

I don't think it's nearly as bad as some are making it out to be. I think the fact that Boone's name on it causes most people to instantly hate it to begin with.
but as far as the actually substance of the plan....
Basketball arena- I agree with him here. We are barely averaging half-capacity. If we build a new one now, if should be smaller. But here's the thing, we don't need a new one. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it other than aesthetics. I think that if we redo the concourse areas and ticket office, it can turn into a really good arena.
Football expansion- Until we show that we can keep selling out, I don't see a reason to "fully" expand the NEZ. I DO think that we aren't far off from that though.
What I like the most about it is something that NO ONE is even talking about but it is the most important. That's the improved fund-raising that they are doing. The Vaught Society is doing a tremendous job and is the first "all-out" attempt at an athletics fund-raiser. The plans stated is that our football program would be 100% independent from the UMAA and that alone gives me a boner. I can't fully go into why that is such a good thing on a message board.....but it would be tremendous. Hopefully that happens before the predicted FY2020.
All in all, this 5-year plan wasn't a black and white plan that so many people were wanting, but it was broken down into single year, multi-year, and 5+ year plan. I think it's a pretty good plan considering the problems that we have with our small budget.

I lived in Baton Rouge, and it's no where near as bad as people like to make it out to be.

It's got the same problems as New Orleans without the benefits ie. incredible nightlife, world class dining, pro sports, legit downtown, french quarter, history, etc.
Then you have Lafayette which is the biggest city in the cajun area of Louisiana and beats BR in literally every category. It would be a perfect SEC town, but alas.
Shreveport>BR as well.

I agree, The Vaught Society sounds fantastic. My main prolem was it was 40 pages of we arent doing shite until we do this and obvious bullshite. Its more about what we arent going to do instead of what we are planning. I wouldnt have minded at all if it wasnt hyped up to be some sort of major athletic expansion plan. It told me nothing at all except if we support a certain sport more then we will think about expanding and improving it. Just seemed like a lot obvious rhetoric that took him a year to draw up and 40 pages to put out
