Of course I'd like to say LA...but I could make a case for California, Florida, or Texas probably.

How do you define success? If its poll championships, you most certainly COULD NOT make a case for the State of Texas. They only have 6 poll championships. California only has 7. Florida is one ahead of the state of Alabama, 10-9.
AP/Coaches Poll champiionships for each state:
Texas- 6: TCU- 1938 Texas A&M- 1939 Texas- 63, 69, 70 &05.
California: 8 UCLA- 1954 USC- 62, 67, 72, 74, 78, 03 & 04.
Alabama- 9: Auburn- 1957 Alabama- 61, 64, 65, 73, 78, 79, 92 & 09.
Florida- 10: Miami- 83, 87, 89, 91, & 01. FSU- 93 & 99. Florida- 96, 06 & 08.

Last time I looked, it was first.....and most years it is.
Of course, that is the best measure of how much talent a state actually produces......
It is silly to compare states any other way since states with huge populations are always going to have more of everything, good and bad, than those with small populations......

did you not just read the dudes post? There really is no way you can put Texas as an all time number one.

The post about AP championships? If that is the only criteria used then sure, but considering other variables Texas could be the most successful.
