although I do think that even by Deep South standards, Alabama is extreme.....

Mississippi has the highest rate of obesity in the nation and ranks 2nd in the nation in the amount of federal money received each year

The case is already made. In terms of producing FBS talent, having traditional programs, and numerous NFL draft picks, it starts and ends with California, Florida, and Texas

Oh, the three states with the largest populations.

Duh!

Who would ever have guessed that that might be the case?

Followed by Pennsylvania and Ohio, which rank, what, 5th and 7th in population.....

Well put. There will be hundreds of thousands that flock to south africa this summer to watch a few soccer matches.... these "priorities" aren't limited to Alabama or the rest of the southeast.

So what? SC doesn't have a large population and we put plenty of people in the NFL draft. + we have 1 Heisman trophy winner and 1 National championship. The state of MS has 3 claimed national titles that are disputable. Does that put us in contention for most successful football state due to population? Pretty much assuming if we had a larger population suddenly our football success would skyrocket.

Its not like the state government in 'Bama just has a list of things to do and a Saban statue was a top of their budget debates.

The football program pays for itself. Only Texas has more revenue than Alabama.

I know. Thats what I was saying. He was making it come off as if the government in 'Bama dealt with in-state football before dealing with other issues.

There you go. In other states, educated people with high incomes give their money to causes that improve society. In Alabama, they give it to college football programs......

No, not forgetting it.

Its black population lives almost entirely in New York City, where there is no place for kids to play football and where most high schools do not even have high school football programs.....which is the main reason it does not produce much football talent.

And most of the white guys upstate who would play football if they lived somewhere else, play hockey instead.

No offense, but you're fricking stupid.... how many states have two major research universities that rank in the top 50 public (that's state funded btw) universities in the nation? Once your done, then list the states in order of total population.

I'll give you a hint, one of them isn't Mississippi (or nevada, or Delaware, or Wisconsin, etc...)

The states that produce the most talent per population AND overall are Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. I actually did a report on it in high school haha

The University of Alabama does pretty damn well for itself in terms of academics. Hell, Alabama and Auburn are both top fifty public institutions. Donors give money to UA, relative to things other than football. Senator Shelby, for one, works hard in Washington getting money for his Alma mater, as well as other Alabama schools. UA alone received 58.6 million towards capital improvements, for last year alone.

In Mississippi, educated people with high incomes don't give their money to any cause because they don't exist.
