I actually think Ole Miss is well positioned to beat them this year, especially with the roster moves Lane has made

Realistically UGA can lose in Oxford. No more Bowers and Mc Whitedude to bail them out. We can beat them and Texas can too.

This year would be a disaster for them, no Atlanta and no playoffs.

The other side of the coin is that Ole Miss could still lose by 30. They still have Pete Golding as DC and all these new guys will have to communicate. Meanwhile UGA will still be, at worse, a typical UGA D under Smart. Outside of 2020 Kiffin hasn't really lit up a Smart or Saban D. I think we will know how this experiment worked by following the revamped oline. If they can be dominant and their D can be as cohesive as a Golding D can be they are in good shape.

If Golding would simplify his D he would do fine. He hamstrings his players be making them do algebra when the ball is hiked.

I’ve seen where we could be in the mix for him but that’s about it.

Ole Miss defense improved a lot last year. They seem happy with Golding. Time will tell.

It looks like they gave up 6 yards (ranked 77th to 70th) and 3 points less per game (ranked 57-40) from the previous year and still gave up 3rd and Golding at the same 40% clip as the previous year. If they like it, I love it . Maybe the talent tells the tell this year.

BUT, they set a record for most wins in school history. If we used strictly stats, we shouldn't have been in the top 4 for the payoffs (sacks etc). The only stat that counts is the scoreboard at the end of the game.

You are right, you are what you record says you are, but I am not saying they can't win a bunch of games or make the playoffs. I am saying it is not unreasonable to believe they could get blown out by UGA this season based on Lane's offensive performances against a certain D and Golding's defenses historical performances even with more talent on D. They got blown out by UGA in the same season they set a school record for wins. Auburn won the natty with a pretty shitty defense overall outside of a few guys. Doesn't mean they weren't Champs, or didn't have a undefeated season but doesn't mean the D was good or wasn't a liability that couldn't have cost them games. Statistically and communication wise it looks that Ole Miss' D has the same problems Golding Ds always have and overall they were not much different than they were the year prior. Again maybe the influx of talent is the difference because at least as I see it Golding is the same liability he has always been. We will see how they progress, we know every season is different and Ole Miss isn't built like Michigan where people were brought into the system and played together over years and peaked as seniors. Revamping an entire unit through the Portal is much more unpredictable like USC's D or Colorodaos Oline.

How Golding has a job above the middle school level astonishes me. He will personally cost OM a few games next season (maybe more). He’s just awful. How he got a job at Bama and kept that job for years will always be a great mystery to me.

From the first interview on Saban COULD understand what Golding was saying but the problem was the players COULD NOT.
