re: SECr straw poll: if DeBoer didn’t have 67 wins at NAIA, how bad would Bama be melting?

He took freaking Washington to a national championship game.
They were in the playoffs in 16 and just missed them in 17. Chris Peterson did it at Washington and Boise State instead of counting on NIAA level wins.

Why would anyone melt after the run we've had? It's kind of exciting to see what a young new coach will do. Jmo

Had a losing record the year before he arrived. That is a monumental turnaround.
Got to tough it out and just see what he can do.

You are pretty young, aren't you?

They already did. He’s a poor man’s Brian Kelly in terms of track record and they were laughing their asses off at us and still are. Ed Orgeron proved that you can’t judge a coach by their record with a Heisman caliber QB

Brian Kelly spent his first thirteen years at Grand Valley State. LSU count those wins. He then spent three years at Central Michigan. Then a “major” school took a flyer on him. He then went 34-6 in three full seasons at Cincinnati, culminating his final season there with the only undefeated season of his career (he doesn’t get credit for their Sugar Bowl win though as he had already departed for Notre Dame).
Coaches have to work their way up the rungs of the ladder. Deboer is a solid hire.
There wouldn’t be so many threads about how horrible he is from rival fans if he actually was horrible. Instead Alabama fans would be the ones lamenting the decision and everyone else would be snickering and saying “Great Hire!”
But no, Deboer has rustled the jimmies around here.

If Rees was hired, the SECR/TD servers would have combusted before midnight last night.

Y’all act like he’s going to be playing with a Washington level roster next year and not one that’s been built by the GOAT
Lotta copium out there from rival fanbases trying everything they can to convince themselves this wasn’t a good hire.

I don’t count those wins. BK is doing extremely well so far fixing his frick ups from this season but I’m not going to sit here and say that I fully believe BK can win in the long term in the SEC because of what he did at Grand Valley State. It’s a non factor.
DeBoer is basically a 100% unknown IMO. He has a good record from 20 years ago at the NAIA level, he has a short tenure at Fresno, and a good tenure at Washington with a Heisman finalist QB. None of those things are indicative of how good he is or isn’t going to be, but y’all are choosing to ignore his poor recruiting track record, shaky wins against sub par competition, and the massive boost that coaches get from having a Heisman-ish QB in favor of his wins at a crap school that no one has ever heard of.

If he didn’t have those wins he would’ve never gotten the Fresno or UW jobs to begin with. You think BK would be LSU’s coach if he had never won lower division championships at Grand Valley State to launch his career?
Coaching is coaching. It’s not like DeBoer won those games with D1 players against NAIA guys. Who knows how he will do, but pretending that winning at every stop and turning teams around each place isn’t promising is absurd.

TCU was a powerhouse under Gary Patterson. Had three top 10 finishes in the previous eight seasons before Dykes took over. Why do people act like Dykes took Vanderbilt to the National Championship Game?

DeBoer hasn’t been anywhere long enough to know how he sustains programs….aside from Sioux Falls.
Probably because he has won so much and started all the way at the bottom to get where he is. Should we have hired a 60 year old who spent 10 years at Fresno and another 10 at UW?

AS a Tiger Fan I believe it is a great hire!!
I was afraid they would make the best hire which was Kiffin.

So funny and hypocritical for you to be saying that about TCU but ignoring the fact that Chris Petersen was excellent at Washington for years, and Sark was the coach before him.
But yea, Deboer took over an unstable program while Dykes took over a big winner. Makes perfect sense. The programs were virtually identical, DeBoer walked into a great situation too bud.
I think everyone is just enjoying pointing out the hypocrisy from your cult RE: DeBoer’s similarities to Brian Kelly and other coaches that y’all have constantly shat on recently.

He has more wins in the CFP than Brian Kelly and it only took him 2 seasons at a P5.

As was mentioned, so does Sonny Dykes (and it only took him 1) yet I don't think he's a particularly great coach.
It's funny to see the Bammers who made fun of the BK hire now try to justify a pretty similar hire, not directed at you.

It is interesting in that when BK was hired Bama fans dismissed his 2 Division 2 championships but now they say DeBoer’s NAIA wins prove he can coach at any level and he’s THE guy.
Big game Brian came with a turrible record vs ranked teams. Surely deboer's isn't that bad.

It's been amusing to see them nervously hoping nobody reads their posts about the Brian Kelly hire. Kalen DeBoer is basically a younger Brian Kelly.
I think it's a fantastic hire given the circumstances.

Two big differences in the Brian Kelly hire:
1. BK was 60 and DeBoer is 49.
2. BK already had a top 10 program with talent and consistently lost the big games against other talented teams.
BK had every opportunity to get it done and was consistently good but not great, exactly what he has been at LSU so far. He’s a known commodity on his last few good years left in him.
