It sounds like Freeze is happy with the progress of Thorne. And you cant discount what bringing in a real receiving room will do to his performance.

Makes sense as I recall Hugh saying he wasn’t going to get into a bidding war for a portal QB. Maybe Leonard prompted that comment by Freeze.

Tried telling yall portal QB is about 4th down the list of priority for the team next season. WR, DL, DB, QB, OL (maybe 1 starter and 1 for older depth), Edge. Those are what I think is the order. Now is it easier to get a G5 lineman over a highly ranked P5 QB? You damn right it is

Do I want another QB, Yes. Will I be ok and NOT melt if we do not get one, Yes. Thorne is serviceable, but needs talent around him. Knows the offense, ect.

I understand the money situation. We don’t have the roster next season to compete for championships. Why spend a fortune on a 1 year QB when you have a serviceable QB on campus. We will be extremely young at WR and DB. Mixed bag of talent on DL. If Asante comes back we are upper middle pack at LB and top 5 in the conference running back room. OL possibly middle of the pack in conference. That is reality

Im thinking along the same lines.

What's ridiculous is people possibly getting butthurt assuming I'm throwing my vote to Thorne.

I let Freeze do the talking. WRs were not playing with any consistency early in the season… well until about half way through the season but after they got the routes down then they couldn’t catch the damn ball.

There are much better QBs out there but does it benefit us for building a program or does 1 more win mean that much next season? I don’t see the value in that. Would I love to be ina different spot yes but we aren’t

For real or is Hugh trying to freeze Thorne in place?

Was Thorne rumored to be looking to leave? If so, let him roll.

I think NIL is keeping Thorne in place Freeze doesnt need to coax him

I agree that WR should be number one. I'm disappointed not seeing some of our hands of stone guys not leaving. I'm not big on Thorne but it seemed like every time he threw the perfect ball, guys would drop it or make a lackluster effort to catch it. In my opinion, we need to look for experienced WR's, edge rushers and LBs with better reaction and awareness. And pray that White is the next phenom.

I cannot believe we aren't seriously trying to grab one of theses guys.

any team bringing in a portal QB is taking a chance of running a future QB off. QB was not a problem down the stretch. If we are looking for transfers, we need to be looking for guys who can catch the ball. Expecting these top WR targets to come in, as true freshmen, and set the world on fire is a little naive.

They are leaving. MJJ is in the portal. 3 are out of eligibility well take that back 2 are and shorter is trying to get a 6th year medical. Omari Kelly is in the portal.

I expect 1 of Var or Fair to enter the portal. In the spring I expect Burton to move into the slot instead of staying outside. So depends on who Freeze says is number 1 after the season nd of the season I expect the other to leave. Only caveat would be is if Var thinks he can go somewhere that they throw the ball much more because even tho he’s tiny he has NFL talent

We need good WR in the portal with experience to go with our incoming freshman. They are talented and will make a ton of mistakes so need that experience to show them the way to learn, watch film, practice, not to getting shite off the field and so on…

I agree, and have been on record as saying I'm fine with Thorne if it comes down to it. A few days ago, the board was up in arms if you said that. Who are we going to run off by bringing in a transfer? Geriner? Hank Brown? Obviously Freeze doesn't think much of either one since they didn't even get a look when Ashford and Thorne were both playing like garbage.

And it doesn't have to be a situation where if we get a QB, we can't pick up an edge guy or a WR or a LB. Yes, one spot is going to take a hit with depth, but QB is the most important position. But the QB depth is also lacking. Like I said earlier, going all in with Thorne is risky. I think he will be okay with more time as he has already shown improvement. But if he goes down...we are truly screwed unless we have beenplaying the wrong guy for two years or Walker White trends in the opposite direction of the vast majority of true freshman SEC QBs.

Thompson and Coleman are head and shoulders better than anyone at the position on the roster as soon as they step on the field.

Jang,

Pink said he believes a lot of McCallister's former teammates are reaching out and he is trying to get the good ones on our roster. He seems like a really genuine gentleman, was a nice addition to the family.

Caulllin Lacy from South Alabama received an offer. 5’10” is all I saw. I feel like we’re set with slot receivers.

I still am up in arms about it.

You go get a portal guy. I’m not talking myself into Thorne. Even if he does turn into something, you go get a guy for him to beat out. You don’t bank on Thorne coming around.

Even if we don’t compete next year, you’ve got to keep positive momentum going or it all falls apart.

I really don’t give a shite if we run somebody off with that either. Walker White would be stupid to be run off by a transfer QB this year. So that leaves Robby, Grenier, Hank Brown. None of those guys are good enough to dictate what I do.

the frick we dont. What a defeatist attitude. You have zero fricking clue who will be on the roster, who will start, who will contribute, etc. You just dont. Stop writing off the team and the players, coach?

lol well we see the freshman is gonna be solid. We know the guys here are pretty well average.

We ain’t taking 25 portal players this year maybe 10-12 maybe. So…. Looks like an 7-5, 8-4 team going into next season. We ain’t hitting a home run in the portal at all of our areas of need. Sorry Chex you can go all posibarner all you want but I’m just being realistic. Who will be the top QB next season in college football. Take that guy and he doesn’t get us to 10 wins. Period
