An OC without his short of the chains pass mentality needs to be hired.

The most infuriating things is that we'd probably be pretty damn good with a good OC. Billy is a great recruiter and clearly knows how to build a program except for one, very key area.

Napier is a clown. He coached scared against Kentucky.
Hes an idiot. I don’t want someone coaching at Florida who enters a game with a plan to coach scared.

We need 3 scores and are throwing RB passes. Does Napier even have a 2 minute offense,?

Im waiting for the sunshine pumpers to defend this like they did last week.

Try defending it
I’m waiting for an explanation.

What joke play calling but hey it gives a nice completion % playing this way.

No defending today’s performance. Not sure where we go from here…
Posted on 9/30/23 at 2:15 pm to Gator Fever
We can move on or continue to go 5-7 or 6-6? That's the rwo choices Stricklin has.

Dude, no one is defending this. And I think even those who have been optimistic have been largely talking themselves into it because there is likely no way this plays out where we can't compete for a few more seasons.
Worst case scenario is they keep him on next year without an OC, we have another terrible season, but then they give him a fourth season where he is forced to hire an OC - which more than likely is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
They fire him this year, and the recruiting class probably falls apart unless they bring in a true heavy hitter, assuming the money would be there and a true heavy hitter is even available.
Maybe you do it anyway; I don't know. I have no idea where the program goes from here, but I haven't seen anything in the last 14 months that makes me excited about our chances next year to really be any different.
And should anyone want to bring up giving Norvell time as an example, Norvell was running some high powered offenses at Memphis. They weren't always killers, but you could see where what he wanted a team to look like. Billy's offenses look like Muschamp ball even when they click.
Some of y'all know way more about schemes than me, but I don't have any faith that style of play can lead to an elite level of play in the P5.

So…even though we beat the hell out of them for like 31 years or whatever, are we at a point where we mark this as an L every year until we prove otherwise?
Posted on 9/30/23 at 2:28 pm to NWA_Gator
The guy came in here with his "scared money don't make money" bullshite.
And then proceeds to call the most vanilla, conservative offense I've seen.

It’s either force Napier to bring in an OC with their own system and hire an ST Coordinator or get rid of Napier. I’m not sure on some of these 2nd/3rd and longs where we run Pearsall in motion then he goes to the flat. That’s a complete waste of his ability.

I don't mark anything an L until we play. Crazy shite happens, and I think we have the talent to hang with just about anybody were that the sole factor.
But you're damn right that we don't mark any SEC team an automatic win until we prove otherwise. History doesn't play games. Maybe that's half the problem. I still feel like this team feels like that helmet matters as much as it did from the 90s through 2012 or so. There's nothing left. Four coaches now of an occasional decent team but mostly crap, and there's just about no streak left. At this point, I guess Tennessee may still get in their head about playing in the Swamp, but Georgia doesn't get in their head about us anymore. Kentucky doesn't anymore.
I don't like it either, but we're in a fricking mess whether we fired Billy tomorrow or not.
I'm sure there are coaches who could largely salvage a class off name alone and go back to winning some of these former gimmies next year, but I'm not sure we could get them. I'm not against going that route, but if we don't have an absolute, for sure killer coming in and just going to end up rolling the dice on another up-and-comer, I don't know what the point is.
The next question is do we have an AD with the stones and fire to pull that off?

He called a gameplan that didn’t have Pearsall touching the ball until the last drive in the 2nd Q.
Hes a control freak who screws around too much with the offense and tries to get everything exactly 100% perfect rather than letting guys play loose and free.
It’s a fricking shitshow.

Which is way I've come off him a lot this year, even with the Tennessee win. It just all reminds me way, way too much of 2011-2014, the carousel of OCs, and ultimately just not being a very good team.

lol.. Napier said we didn't play with urgency due to the sack of Mertz. He needs to just admit he doesn't even have a 2 minute offense. This game and Utah shows that.

It's definitely easy to want Napier gone after this one game. Have to be rational and look at his body of work though.
It's not a shock that they looked like garbage today. Maybe some of our expectations were a little too high after that Tennessee game.
We've been an inconsistent, highly penalized team, especially on the road. Players (moreso the offense) aren't up to par, and defense can be soft. We need better players if we are really expecting 10-12 win seasons.
More importantly though, Napier is showing that even with better players, he likely won't be able to get the job done offensively. Thing is, we won't really know until he gets those players.
Knowing that he won't be fired this year, we just have to hope he makes some major changes with the coaching personnel (OC, ST coach) and attacks the portal for some OL and WRs.
After 18 games in his tenure we know who we are. No need to lose it over a game here and there. The way I see it, in our current state even if hell froze over and we beat Georgia, I wouldn't be surprised by a beat down at Missouri.
If we don't make the necessary changes at the end of the season, might as well fire the staff before the season starts, because nothing will change in season.
TL, DR: Team and coaching has been inconsistent over the last 18 games. So don't get too high or low over wins/losses the rest of the season. Napier not going anywhere, so just hope for changes at the end of the season.

UF needs a new AD. Nothing under Stricklin has improved. We've only maintained with track and gymnastics.
Im tired of watching us flail around in the 5-7 and 7-5 realm every year.
I know the other teams have players too, and Kentucky has certainly pushed our shite in the last few years. We be got to better than this though, especially with t do good reams (OU and UT) coming into the league next year.
