I think that was the biggest reason for us stalling in the red zone.

IMO the red zone issues and third down efficiency issues are a direct result of way too conservative play calling. We run most pass routes on 3rd down right at the line to gain, usually coming up a yard short if completed, and in the red zone we hardly ever challenge the end zone. It's like we are an NFL team playing for a field goal. Sorry, this post should be in the Mega melt thread but just responding to your post. Play calling has to be more agressive if we hope to beat the better SEC teams.

Hoping Andy Jean gets more snaps against Kentucky.

I don’t think it’s coincidence when Kingsley is out we struggle.

Him, George and Mazz back will fix a lot of problems we saw last week.

We were wrong about Hudson.

Our starters are pretty good but lack depth. This is true across the board, not just at OL.

Most of the team is underclassmen, so yeah you lose a starter there’s not much exp behind them

Thinking 20-13ish type of game. Just hope UF is on the right side of that

Even most of the starters are pretty green.

Feeling good about this weekend, hopefully Napier heard some of the criticism this week of play calling, particularly in the red zone and took it to heart. Nobody wants him fired or anything stupid but we have to improve in this area. Touchdowns just mean more..............than field goals.

My Weds prediction, UF - 27 UK - 14

Gators go to 4-1.

Not sure what all that means but KY is 3rd in the country in yards per play v yards per play given up. I don't think that stat means much early with KY though as they have played lesser group of 5 teams and Vandy so far.

I am a little nervous after watching the breakdown of our offense against Charlotte. Napier is very hard headed in his play calling. He loves to run the ball even when the defense is daring you to pass and playing the run.

I like to think he's doing it by design to not show too much when we don't need to show our hand.

But then there's a part of me who thinks he is just stubborn and sucks at taking what the defense gives him.

Imo he is just not a good play caller and we need someone in the box doing that. Maybe he will prove me wrong this game and have some shifts again that really mess the defense up. I doubt Stoops defense falls for the stuff the TN defense fell for though.

Stoops is a great defensive mind.

He basically created the blueprint to stop the Mullen offense. That's why we were only able to beat them with Kyle Trask since Trask made Mullen deviate from his typical style of play.

Yep Stoops seems to play pretty good defense against most teams except Tennessee. Tennessee is like Kryptonite to KY for some reason in recent years.

Napier may not be a great play caller. But I also think we still don't have the dynamic QB and pass catchers who can threaten a defense consistently.

We are nit picking the offense (more) because they're lagging behind the defense. But defense got better players through the portal and from high school. The offense didn't. Tre Wilson and Ricky are the only 2 players who I have confidence in to change a game, and one's a freshman.

Maybe Napier can scheme better to get guys open downfield, but gonna take some time.

Andy Jean has some potential. But he's young.

Yeah, other than Ricky, I only expect great things from our freshmen. I don't see the other guys morphing into something they're not.

And if Mertz starts slinging it in this offense, we might see some regression to his Wisconsin days. So we've done a good job at managing him so far.
