If anyone has time... visit the San Francisco Palace of Fine Art. It's the site of the 1915 Worlds Fair and is phenomenal. Free
Cross Golden Gate Bridge take first exit and go to Sausalito, Ca. Top 5 $$$ area code in the country. View looking back to San Fran, Oakland and the bay is beautiful. Toll to cross Golden Gate will be billed.
Take a drive down Hwy 1 to Big Sur for the best beach scenery in the world.
Beware of Fisherman's Warf, the chocolate store. It's tourist rip offs and high prices especially with dining. The warf will only take a hour or so and you have seen it. Including the seals.
Careful of Alcatraz tour as it can be disappointing and will take up a fair amount of time including ferry ride out and back.
Drive or Uber up to Twin Peaks for the best view of the Bay Area.
Current forecast for Sat is 68 for the high and 57 night calling for clear skies.
Auburn San Francisco Club is having an event at the game.
Safe travels everyone!

We enjoyed our tour. It was lead by a former prison guard and featured an interview with a former inmate. I'm sure they are both long dead now, but they were fascinating. Muir Woods was my personal highlight. Loved Beach Blanket Babylon although that looks to be done with now.

I also enjoyed Muir Woods. I saw Alanis Morissette getting a burrito at a gas station in Big Sur. It wasn't ironic.
I enjoyed Alcatraz as well, but it does burn a day.

Recommendations from Cal board
Edit: The whole thread is a goldmine of info about what to do (and not to do) from many sources. It’s an expensive ticket, so well worth the read.

Welcome! My recommendations downtown:
1. Comal (upscale Mexican)
2. Jupiter (pizza and brewpub, great.outdoor patio in back)
3. Chez Panisse (up Shattuck, "the Gourmet Ghetto" this is the restaurant that started "California Cuisine" of artinisal French and Italian inspired food back in the 70s.
4. The Cheeseboard Collective (also up Shattuck) another pizza place, collectively owned by the employees since the 60s.
5. Top Dog (hot dogs and libertarian literature, staple of Cal fans since the 60s).
6. East Bay Spice (craft cocktails, Indian food).
7. Ippuku (Japanese izakaya, small dishes to eat whike drinking beer and sake).
8. La Note (French, great place for breakfast).
Game day, the walk up through campus to the stadium from downtown is nice. Go up the Campanile (bell tower) for the views, then either head over to Sproul Plaza for the pregame band show or proceed to Faculty Club for a good stop for food and drinks. Then go up through the Haas business school. Go into the stadium or go get another beer at the International House. The other alternative is to go up or down Bancroft for a taste of southside and see the band perform at Sproul Plaza then follow the band through campus including the Faculty Club, to the stadium.
Bay Area: usual spots for first timers:
San Francisco, Fisherman's wharf (touristy, great sourdough, crab), Chinatown, North Beach (old Italian Neighborhood, Tony's Pizza Napoletana won best pizza in Naples, Golden Gate Bridge.
Marin County: Sausalito (seaside town reminiscent of the Mediterranean), Muir Woods: relatively accessible redwood forest. If you want a GREAT hike, I love Steep Ravine, park at Stinson Beach hike up (and climb up ladders) through the redwoods, ferns, waterfalls to the Pan Toll Ranger Station and then back down to the beach where you can swim (warning, cold ocean), shower, picnic, or swim/shower and then walk into the town of Stinson Beach for food and beverages.
Napa Valley: wine tasting and great food. Most places now charge. Sonoma County is a more causual version.

You've GOT to take the kid to Muir Woods to see the redwood forest. It's amazing.
Sold. That is now on the agenda for Friday. Read a lot of reviews. I think we'll really enjoy it. Thanks!

On the flip side, auburn is something like 10-2 vs PAC-12 teams… USC in 2002 and 2003 being the only losses.
