Why doesn't either fanbase embrace this rivalry game? It seems like both fanbases have reasons as to why it's not a rivalry, yet it's viewed that way from an outside perspective.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. They both do but they don’t want to admit it publicly.

We are not worthy of calling ourselves their rival

Tired of losing to them

Imagine NC State joining the conference and the PTB made a trophy for their game with South Carolina and dubbed it the "Carolina Battleline Rivalry" game

I could imagine NC State and South Carolina having a rivalry if they ever joined the SEC to be honest.

But is it really? Way better basketball matchup than football if we are being honest.

I could too and feel the same with AR and MO .

Making a trophy 3 years after they join and dubbing it a rivalry is forced and a bit premature IMO.

Missouri's only true rival will always be Kansas.

Same thing with South Carolina and Clemson. Doesn't mean you can't have secondary rivalries.

It's actually pretty fun to be in KCMO when Kansas and Missouri hook up in football or basketball.

I'd probably be fun to be in a bar in Springfield, or Joplin, MO when the Hogs and Tigers play. Lots of fans of both teams in SW MO.

I’m not afraid to admit it. The Hogs are undoubtedly one of our rivals

Yep, needed to happen somewhat organically, not forced.

Because prior to Mizzou joining the SEC, we had only played each other like 4 times in history.

They still seem like outsiders, and the campuses aren't that close together. States over here west of the River are bigger.

I can't recall a Missouri game before they joined the SEC except for an Independence Bowl or something.

That isn't a good comparison.

NC State and South Carolina have met in football over 50 times. The campuses are three hours apart.

They should be a rival of yours.

It would be more like West Virginia or someone you have zero history with and semi-close proximity to joined the league--a team that nobody believes or feels belongs in the SEC. Then they make a cheap-looking shitty trophy for that game, and you're supposed to get hype.

That's what it would be like.
