Everybody talks about games that “broke” a program; what about games that “made” one?

I’m thinking for LSU, probably a win in the early 2000s. For Alabama, probably one from 2008 or 2009
For Mizzou you’ll normally hear our win over #10 Nebraska in 2003, but I personally think finally beating Kansas State in 2006 took a huge weight off the fanbase’s shoulders
What games do you have?

It's not like we were pond scum, but I think the 2021 NC win over Bama was the most important game UGA has won in several decades. After we lost the heartbreaker natty to them in OT back in 18, Bama had become our nemesis. It's like the laws of physics or something was against us. Saban and Bama was the ceiling that Kirby needed to break through to get UGA where it is now. Getting that 25000 lb gorilla off our back was huge.

Mr. Video finally defeating Donkey Kong and coming into his own. Changed his name to Mario, and left all others in the dust. He's never looked back since and his reign continues to this day. Yet he remains humble and continues to be faithful to Peach...for the most part.

Some could say the 2008 Clemson game, but I think it was 2008 @ UGA. That was a good UGA team, and BAMA put the game out of reach in the first half. That game let the world know that BAMA was once again legitimate.
The other would be the 2009 SECCG against UF. UF was the best program in the conference at the time, with Tim Tebow no less, a loaded roster, and had beat BAMA for the SEC title just one year prior, and BAMA stomped them. That cemented BAMA back at the top of the conference and the college football world once again.

2000 vs Tennessee. Coming off of back to back losing seasons, got skulldrug by Auburn and lost at home to UAB in back to back weeks in Saban's first year. Next game we get ranked Tennessee at home as huge underdogs. Rohan Davey and Josh Reed are the heroes as LSU pulls the upset in OT.

The 2008 arse kicking Alabama gave to #1 Georgia was a big one.
2009 SEC Championship Game was big for them as well, but I think they had established their identity by then

I was at that game. Talk about not just a game but a single play that completely changed the trajectories of two programs - early in the game, it may have even been on UF's first possession, Percy Harvin rolled out into the flat and in my memory there was no one within 20 yards of him. If he had made the reception there he would still be running to this day, and who knows how things would have played out then? But instead he dropped the easy catch. Bullet successfully dodged, Bama went on to complete one of the great mudhole stompings of all time.

Lots of times it’s the same game, just two different fates.
2001 SECCG broke Tennessee & made LSU.
2011 rematch & Yeldon game broke Les Miles & made Bama dynasty of 2010s.
The games are just symptoms though, not causes. Fulmer was in decline & Saban was rising — when we really won was when we hired him.
Les Miles was always broken. We were doomed when we didn’t fire him after the Tenner timeout game… or after he tried to leverage the arkansas job for more money… or after ppl found out about his off the field issues & chose to stay mum… and many times after.
We won when we hired Kelly, and if we beat Bama again this year the 2-pt conversion will be seen as that moment. Championship programs are made in the offseason.

Upset over Florida in 97.
DiNardo wasn't a very good coach, but he did bring some pride back to the program and started keeping Louisiana recruits home that would have gone out of state in the past.
Saban kicked that up to 11.

Let’s not forget the Patrick Peterson INT game that year.
It took a series of games to put LSU football in the dirt, which was going to be a significant boon for Bama — and that was one of those games.

The Hobnail Boot game for UGA and Coach Richt over UT comes to mind

DiNardo is underappreciated. He walked so Saban could run.

Mizzou still hasn't made it

Really going out on a limb here.

For Ole Miss under Freeze, it was the 2013 LSU game. We came into that game limping, having lost three in a row, with a bunch of suspended players. LSU was #6 and with wins over multiple top 25 teams. The defense forced three Mettenberger interceptions and the Rebels did just enough to win on a beautiful night in Oxford. It was definitely one of the "Good Bo" nights in his career too, so I'll give him some props. He was masterful on the final drive, picking up a couple of key first downs with his legs.
After beating LSU that night, we then proceeded to go 24-9 over our next 33 games.
Laugh all you want. 24-9 over a 33 game span isn't something we do often.

Why would you say that? I think anybody can see what I said was accurate. We wouldn't be where we are today if we had not got the Bama gorilla off our backs. That win was huge to Kirby and the program as far as breaking through to the top of the mountain. Wouldn't you agree?

2001 SEC championship game broke Tennessee. That was my 21st birthday.
