Anyone remember Richard Jibunor? Why did he leave Auburn?

I think he left after Gus got canned. I know he transferred to Troy.

He left in 2019 actually.

I seem to remember him being on Gus's shite list.

He is considered a top LB/DE for Troy and in the FBS division. I was just curious if anyone had some info on his time here and why he left.

He's had 9 forced fumbles, 3 INT's, and 26 sacks in FBS play since leaving Auburn. I know, I know lesser competition, but we are in need of a pass rush specialist.

Oh well. My daughter goes to Texas State and so I have been following their football, and they play Troy Sat. He was mentioned in some articles.

I remember it being pretty sudden when it happened and very unexpected. He has averaged 7.5 sacks the last two seasons and is on pace for close to that this year as well. Seems to have done well for himself.

I think he was only here for his true frosh season in '18 and left before the '19 season. If I remember right, he was in a situation where his redshirt got burned by playing in just enough games to use it up and no more. Kinda like the Asa Martin (who coincidentally is at Troy with Jibunor now after going to Memphis for a couple seasons) situation, but not as blatantly dumb.

Anyway, I remember a strip sack he had against Arkansas during his time at Auburn and was excited for his future.

ETA: I went to his stats page on the AU website and he played in exactly 4 games in 2018. Just enough to burn the redshirt. His last game was the bowl game against Purdue. He played in 2 games in September and didn't play again until the Aggy game to start November, where he recorded zero stats. He then sat for nearly another two entire mk the before playing in the meaningless bowl game. Amazing roster management.

I want to say he may have gotten a dui or something while at AU.

You can play in 4 games and still redshirt. The only intended redshirt that I ever remember is Asa

Just from reading this it appears Jibunor was little uncoachable then while on a stacked 3 deep in 2019. His departure gave us Derick Hall.

So Jibunor is just having round-about success. Took a while but at least he got it.

Thought Gus screwed up his redshirt and then he transferred?

Not that I remember. Asa Martin yes played him on special teams and burned a redshirt.

He wouldn't be playing in 2023 if his RS was burned in 2018, even with the Covid extra year.

Fromm took them to the national championship and the had the game won. The defense lost the game in the last seconds All that in his first season

How do you bench him the next season and play Fields? Stetson Bennett was obviously the right choice.

I have no idea about the situation now but as much as I dislike that bowl cut mother fricker, I am not going to second guess his choice of quarterbacks. He does know the secret though. Stack them on the roster every chance you have. Then you will always have one to play. No matter who leaves

Played him on special teams…..for a kick return and ONE carry in the MSU game that year…that was his 5th game.

Chip Lindsey told his mom that he was going to be a big part of the offense in that game and he wasn’t….and she had reminded him that the State game would be his 5th game because staff had talked about RSing him. After the game the staff started talking again about RSing him and his mom was like well you fricked that up.

It was a complete clusterfrick by Gus and his staff. Asa ended up with less than 15 carries and like 50 yards that season and that cost him his redshirt.

He’s also at his fourth school. He took his RS year at Miami.

I have watched a little of a few of their games. He has made noise in every one of them. Knew the name when I first heard it. Another one that got away.

Think he redshirted in his transfer year and then got a covid year, but I could be wrong. I just rememebr a rb that everyone freaked out about cause Gus burned their redshirt for no reason

That was Asa Martin RB

Jibunor is a LB/DE

They were in the same recruiting class though at Auburn and Asa ended up at Troy after a brief stop at Miami and Memphis.
