If they fire him after this year they still owe him 31 mil. That's the biggest thing that would keep him from getting fired.

Meanwhile ol' Gustav and UCF are close to becoming the best team in Fla lol (We will see how FSU does this year).

I predict that Gus will be the next HC at UF.

They can’t fire Napier then hire a retread. When they make the call on Napier they’ve got to have a proven coach from a power conference.

His buyout only drops to like $26 mill the following year I think. If he flops bad this year, it's not worth it to bring him back as a dead man walking to "save" ~$5 mill.

This statement doesn't make any sense to me. FSU won more games (10) than UCF did last year, against a harder schedule. How again is Gus "close to becoming the best team in Florida"? FSU has a MUCH better team and coaching staff than UCF does. It seems like people just can't accept that FSU is actually a very strong team with a lot of talent. No, UCF is not even close lol.

That's not even taking into account how under prepared and unorganized they looked. Billy Harsin over there.

starting to think that the drastic changes in the sport over the last three years has flipped a switch in a few HCs

the game has become more about kissing players asses to get them to commit/transfer in, then kissing them some more to keep them from transferring out, and kissing the asses of the guys running the NIL money spigot

i can see more than one HC grabbing one of these multimillion dollar guaranteed deals and then just phoning it in, just so they can collect a huge buyout and spend the rest of their lives doing what they want (and not having to kiss all those asses)

Harsin & Napier maybe good examples of this

Depends on how much the money guys want to spend.

Relax Meta lol. It was a half serious comment about Florida (and Miami) sucking and UCF doing well. FSU needs a big season. I think they do it, but if Travis takes a step back they are in trouble.

The real OG's know that Marcus Davis and Freeze went after the Jamari Thrash WR at Louisville while he was at Georgia State last year.

High ranked recruiting classes don’t give coaches breathing room… if anything it makes it worse on a coach.

Depends on how long they’ve been at a school.

If you’re in year 1/2 and have good recruiting classes, there’s less pressure to perform on the field because the narrative is you have to let him get his guys in and let them get some experience.

If you’re in year 4/5 or beyond and have good recruiting classes, the narrative is more focused around what have you done with the talent. 6 wins with top 10 recruiting classes makes your seat extra hot.

If Harsin was recruiting his arse off, he’d still be at Auburn.

FSU fired Taggert after two years… and he was a better recruiter than sunbelt Billy.

Recruiting doesn’t buy you time if you suck in yr two… not in todays environment anyway.

FSU went from top 5ish classes with Jimbo to the #11 & #18 classes under Taggert. Supports my argument.

Do you not see how Hugh’s recruiting has already built goodwill with the fanbase before ever coaching a game? Do you not think that gives him somewhat of a longer leash?

But I mean you do bring up another element to it. Somewhat depends on expectations coming in. Whoever follows Saban, it won’t matter how good the recruiting classes are. They’ll have a short leash.

Also Napier has the #3 class right now which is higher than any of Taggerts.

Yeah…. Who you’re following def matters. UF fans were upset with Mullens recruiting… so Napier stepping it up matters for perception.

Will be interesting to see if this yr plays out poorly what they’ll do… I still believe recruiting won’t matter (and will struggle) if he goes something like 4-8… but we’ll see.

I haven’t seen a list, but I’ve seen where JLee is keeping track of all recruits in Auburn.

Potential commitment coming this weekend that wasn’t exactly planned.

Big time to go ahead and get him. Him and Waldrep (I think that's how you spell it) are two guys I want to get on board early.

Doubt we get Waldrep. Both parents went to bama. Dad was a walk on there. Some family ties to Clemson. Saban got him to transfer to Central. Waiting on bama offer, imo.
