I agree.

The university has an obligation to investigate the complaints. What made this so bad was the sudden and shitty rumor about an affair.

And as far as few being surprised, you will always find those types of comments in hindsight. I think you could find similar comments on any coach at one of their past stops.

I do not believe we know how this will end, but it was NOT a witch hunt by the PTB.

I disagree. The timing still seems like an ambush and be honest, these shenanigans do fit some of the past behavior of the boosters. It can be a true statement that the university started an investigation while the boosters tried undoubtedly knew and tried to get dirt and work the media narrative.

People pointed out Leath's issues when Auburn hired him and you sugar coated it at every step. You constantly sugar coated Gus' tenure by saying he consistently had Auburn in the NC discussion every year when reality was he averaged 4-5 loses a year. You pumped up the Harsin hire by reminding this board that he the 3rd winningest HC in the country.

Now you have the Leath Effect and Greene wasn't qualified to run an SEC Program.

Not me, I thought it was a big mistake based on what he did at Iowa St. He was hired because was a big fundraiser. But the big red flag was his ignorance to common employment practices and a belief he was above the rules. He used Iowa St aircraft to get his Commercial Instrument ratings and then used the planes as his personal vehicles.

Gus did a good job at Auburn and had a chance to take it to the next level. He couldn't take advantage of it and it looked like he never would. That is why I supported his firing. I also supported his contract extension at the time because it sent a message to CF that AU was willing to pay a coach top dollar. In the past AU would hire the up-and-coming coach and pay him the average salary. The would bump his pay after early success and then fire him when he shows his real coaching ability.

All I knew about Harsin was he was better than Steele. I still believe it. It would not bother me if Harsin stayed, I think his problem was he tried too hard to get rid of the Deadwood at Auburn that Gus left behind.

Never thought Greene was a good pick, but he met the profile that Leath wanted to project, and he spoke better than Jay Jacobs. Greene tried to run the Auburn Program like it was a for profit business, while he was cutting back other programs were upgrading on credit.

This is a product of the Leath Effect. Greens wasn't qualified to run an SEC Program yet and was hired to send a message. Without Leath there is no Gus contract extension, no Greene and no Harsin. Gogue didn't want to get involved and allowed Greene to pick who he wanted.

So, you are saying Leath and Greene are both screwups? Who hired them? Didn’t the ones that hired them screwup, too?

This, more than anything else, points to the dysfunctionality at the top at AU.

My best AU buddy lives in Iowa now and is close to a lot of ISU boosters. He couldn't believe Leath was even being considered.

Again, Leath was hired for his fundraising ability. Auburn was going through a Billion-dollar fundraising campaign and some BOTs members (Harbert) thought he would be perfect for that mission. Harbert has lost a lot of his clout as a BOT member. That is why most people wanted Steele blocked as the future coach at Auburn. Everyone wants to blame Rane, but he is not the problem.

In a 3 year span Arkansas State had Hugh Freeze, Gus Malzahn and Harsin as their head coaches.
Auburn could very well go from Malzahn to Harsin to Freeze.

Wonder if Steve Roberts will be available when Freeze bolts after the 2022 season?

All of this makes you wonder exactly who did the vetting for Auburn when they were looking for somebody to take over for Malzahn.

The REC infiltrated Auburn's search committee.

Harsin was not disliked at ASU.

Never heard a negative comment about his character while at Arkansas State.

Not disputing you. This type of stuff always comes out at times like this-- not sure how much stock to put in it. Of course, i also think detractors often bank things to bring them up for moments just like this.

I always wondered if Roberts was on the brink of a breakout that Freeze ended up capitalizing on, or whether ASU would have had those breakout seasons without Freeze. The program had finally found a heartbeat with Roberts, but they'd given him 9 years.

I never heard about character issues in Jonesboro either, only that people found Harsin's personality offputting. I put it down to regional differences at the time.

According to the AD that’s just another lie

That story is 100% not true!! Very false and a lack of journalistic integrity! Whoever wrote it should have checked with me first! THE IRONY?!Bryan won a conference championship as the fourth Head Coach in four years! We fully intended and hoped he would stay!

And nary a rumor of player and staff discontent or any racial issues at either. Yet he’s at Auburn for 1 yrs and all sorts of shite’s been unearthed on the man.

If one of the knocks on Harsin is that he can't relate to black players, Auburn will catch all kinds of hell if they fire Greene.

I'm not saying Greene shouldn't be fired. I'm just saying you know what's coming if they do fire him. Having to appease the ensuing mob will limit Auburn's options for AD and/or HC.
