Few in Jonesboro Surprised Harsin May Get Fired at Auburn

ASU avoided the whole firing issue when Boise State picked Harsin, who had been Chris Petersen's offensive coordinator before going to Jonesboro.
All of this makes you wonder exactly who did the vetting for Auburn when they were looking for somebody to take over for Malzahn. They picked Harsin. Now they may have to pay $18 million to get rid of him.

Don't pay attention to the talk about an affair. That's never the real reason anybody gets fired, just a convenient contributing factor that lets athletic directors win the press conference.

Harsin was the pick because Auburn may be the most dysfunctional place in the SEC.
Throwing a jerk like Harsin into that mix was a lit match near a gas can. It was really just a matter of time before it blew up.

That could legit happen

In fact, I have questioned what Greene was doing the last two weeks.

I still wonder if the Washington interest and trip are part of this

Greene thought he saved his job with the Pearl contract extension, then this happened.

In a 3 year span Arkansas State had Hugh Freeze, Gus Malzahn and Harsin as their head coaches. They certainly know how to pick them

Greene is Auburn admin and if he didn't do enough research to find this out about Harsin before he gave him a $31 million contract, that is definitely a problem.

Will Auburn go 3/3 too...but in reverse order?

This is a product of the Leath Effect. Greens wasn't qualified to run an SEC Program yet and was hired to send a message. Without Leath there is no Gus contract extension, no Greene and no Harsin. Gogue didn't want to get involved and allowed Greene to pick who he wanted.

Auburn might as well change their mascot to the Red Wolves. All 3 of those guys could end up on the Plains.

Harsin was in no jeopardy of losing his job while at Arkansas State, even though 7-5 was a small step back from the Freeze and Malzahn seasons (they won the bowl game after he left and finished 8-5).

Not many hearts were broken in Jonesboro by his leaving, though. He wasn't loved up there.

Freeze was loved. Malzahn was too, but Arkansas State boosters felt jilted by Gus. They didn't blame him for leaving for a better job, but Malzahn had assured them he'd stay for a bit if they made the kinds of investments in the program that Malzahn demanded. They lined up the money and committed, then Malzahn departed after 1 season. It ended up working out for everyone, but there were some bruised feelings.

How convenient for Auburn that we're just now hearing all this from 9 years ago.

And apparently you believe it or have an agenda a lot like Auburn fans do.

Hey, aren't you the same guy that said you'd never be an Alabama fan as long as Saban coached there.

Terry Mohajir was their excellent AD at the time, an ASU alum that took the job at UCF.

Their reputation for picking coaches may be damaged by hiring Butch Jones. Sergeant Carter isn't exactly winning friends and influencing people up in Jonesboro.

So in other words this entire thing has been a smear campaign and witch hunt or the entire Auburn administration is inept.

That means AU is clearly going to hire Freeze.

No, the entire Auburn Administration is not inept. Auburn is doing quite well academically and financially. I can understand why Bama fans only judge a university by their athletics, but there are much more important things. AU screwed up with the hiring of Leath, it has been corrected.

People pointed out Leath's issues when Auburn hired him and you sugar coated it at every step. You constantly sugar coated Gus' tenure by saying he consistently had Auburn in the NC discussion every year when reality was he averaged 4-5 loses a year. You pumped up the Harsin hire by reminding this board that he the 3rd winningest HC in the country.

Now you have the Leath Effect and Greene wasn't qualified to run an SEC Program.

It was and is a terrible hire. Hard to argue that. Now Auburn was going to keep him, but legitimate reasons to investigate was required. (Why we have a law firm). I do not believe we know how this will end, but it was NOT a witch hunt by the PTB. They are probable smoking Cigars.
