LSU has a violent inferiority complex toward A&M. That’s what drives the rivalry on this board.

But is Texas going to come in and blow it all up? Will be interesting to see how these divisions/pods work.

As much as I'd miss some of the classic games we're used to seeing every year, divisions would be a disaster.

Whats with this idea that teams "need" each other. t.u was our rival, we certainly didn't need them.

Like... who cares? If you hate someone, then you do

Have there been any updates on potential divisions and or pods?

A&M and LSU seems like it might turn into a good rivalry, but the expansion could derail that.

I disagree.

A shite ton of A&M and LSU alum live and work together. Both are land grant colleges regularly collaborating on many items and trading faculty from the beginning. The first football game between LSU and A&M was in 1899. It's been a natural rivalry for over a century.

We just needed to get away from the nutless bovines in Austin for a few years to get it to true rivalry status.

Over the past decade I’ve learnt that the SEC views rivalries differently than we (Texas A&M) do.

The term is a taciturn compliment.

To Ags, rival is neither praise nor insult.

We have rivals such as Texas Tech, UTex, Houston, and Rice who will always be considered symbolic foes—regardless of w/l record

The SEC, OTOH, views rivals as wholly balanced competitive adversaries.

Has the SEC ever said anything concrete about it?

Football is easy enough. The conference prints money, so you can shuffle teams around however is needed for equity. I'd be worried about the other sports. It doesn't make sense to pin massive travel budgets on every sport just because we're trying to be fair and meet everyone's demands with football.

Divisions might also work out well enough with other sports.

Wrong, when we left that conference we offered to play those idiots any time, anywhere!! They held their noses up and said no thanks.

Hence why we stopped playing them!

Sure about that?

“Texas athletics director Chris Del Conte was originally in favor of restoring the rivalry when he arrived on the Forty Acres in 2017 and attempted to schedule Texas A&M for future games, according to the Austin American-Statesman, although former A&M athletics director Scott Woodward dismissed the attempt. Del Conte now seems to have lost some level of interest in renewing the game.

When asked in a May 2020 interview with Horns247 about restoring the rivalry game, Del Conte said Texas is focused on playing “anyone that has won a national championship in the modern era as part of our non-conference schedule.” Texas A&M’s only national title came in 1939 when the Aggies were voted national champions by the Associated Press.

“I looked at where we were, and promptly looked at why we have to create great games at home and add an incredible value to our season ticket package. We promptly went out and scheduled Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State and Michigan,” Del Conte told Horns247 in early May 2020.”

LSU will never be more than a 3rd rival for UF. For them it is FSU and then Georgia.

Not even 3rd.
