GFY. Bill Belichick and Nick Saban as Co-DC wouldn't do well vs Clemson with what they return.

On top of that our offense will hand it right back to them

I hope Steele can coach and develop the talent that is there now. I believe there is a lot of talent ready to show what they have and bring the defense back to that top 15 form.

My concern is this about Steele and his hiring and it is all just my BS, what if, guessing:

Arranda turned Auburn down because he looked at the defense that was there and what Muschamp did making chicken salad from chicken shite all year long. He saw that there may be talent, but Gus while maybe not on the hot seat exactly, was going to be on a limited leash if things don't turn for the better. Then he saw an offense that could make him look bad if they stumble and that somebody would say "he allowed 28ppg at Auburn" even if that resulted in a 10-12 game win season. Last he saw LSU had talent on defense, but was undercoached by Steele, and Les got a Tubby pass because they spoke too soon and they would have to wait now. With that he is getting plenty of talent and recruits, and a coach who wants a defense to keep the score down. So Steele gets the old "let me help you find a job" speech and Auburn bites big time and overpays and looks desperate after whiffing on a couple others.

Best case is Gus saw talent in Steele to balance with his offensive style and Jacobs made some bad monetary decisions. Also Steele is going to concentrate on position skills and Garner is going to really help him scheme things a little more effectively to maximize the positives and minimize the weaknesses.

No matter what I want to see a real defense back on the field. Not one good enough for our offense to score last and win. I believe defense wins championships.

Steele's reputation is to be a good coach of fundamentals. If he can get us tackling well and generally being in position we should be a top 25 defense.

I don't think he is going to do anything special, but if he does the above he is exactly what we need
