not sure if you are kidding here or not honestly. While 6-6 isn't a good record, we could actually be a good team and lose 5 or 6 games this year, our schedule is just that tough.

He's not saying 6-6 isn't going to happen. He's saying people who think we're for sure going 6-6 are forgetting that we're pretty sporadic

Then i will agree with that. If Malzahn can find a quarterback to be serviceable and get the ground game going and if Steele can field at least a top 50 defense, we could be a good team that wins 8 to 10. My worries are that we have two completely different quarterbacks at the top and the offense will have to be night and day for each to run it. Naming a starter now and building from that would go a long way no matter who it is.

You do realize that Auburn will have a top 5 schedule every year right? The ole, "We have a tough schedule" line is chicken little stuff. We have never had an easy schedule and we never will.

SI released their predictions yesterday. They have AU going 8-4 (5-3)

You make some good points.

But screw that noise.

15-0 to the ship!

Until we lose a game.

Then 14-1 to the ship!

I disagree.

With GA and Bama games being home-home then away-away...even years like this year are meaningfully more difficult.

I am really hoping that Jacobs will go to bat and petition to move the UGA game into the middle of the season now that we are fricked on them both being at the same location each year. Ending the season with our two biggest rivals on the road is straight fricking brutal.

oh, so you thought our schedule last year was easy. LOFNL

Its a difficult schedule every year so to use the schedule as an excuse to be nega is unacceptable

Yes, our chances of winning the SEC West are meaningfully easier in odd numbered years compared to even number years (although I by no means would say it's easy....just in comparison to going on road to Tuscaloosa and Athens, odd numbered years are easier).

See 2013. Playing Washington St instead of #2 ranked team in the country as non-SEC opponent didn't hurt either.

I think this team would should be 9-3 (5-3) regular season playing last year. This year I think 7-5 regular season is best case

Those 2 L difference is due to having a hard schedule even by typical Auburn standards. More of our toss up games are road contests and we add a top 5 opponent

SECN released its game-by-game breakdown of AU's record:

Sep. 3 vs. Clemson: Loss
Sep. 10 vs. Arkansas State: Win
Sep. 17 vs. Texas A&M: Win
Sep. 24 vs. LSU: Loss
Oct. 1 vs. Louisiana-Monroe: Win
Oct. 8 at Mississippi State: Win
Oct. 22 vs. Arkansas: Loss
Oct. 29 vs. at Ole Miss: Loss
Nov. 5 Vanderbilt: Win
Nov. 12 at Georgia: Loss
Nov. 19 vs. Alabama A&M: Win
Nov. 26 at Alabama: Loss

I don't think it's unreasonable to think we beat Arkansas. That puts us at 7-6. If we can find a way for one more upset, then we're at 8 regular season wins which I will consider successful based on the questions surrounding our QB play.

This is clear.

To me season comes down to 4 swing games: A&M, MSST, ARK & UGA. Have to at least split those to go bowling. 4-0 on those games & maybe we build confidence to shock any of Clemson/Bama/LSU/Ole Miss

Granted we play Clemson before any of those but you get my gist

Your scenario has us going 5 -3 in the SEC, which ...sorry man...does not look realistic in any scenario.

In 2014 with Nick Marshall, Sammie Coates, Cam A-P, Duke Williams (pre-losing his head), we only went 4 - 4 in the SEC.

The defense has improved so I think Auburn 2016 improves from our 2 - 6 record last year to 3 - 5 this year in line with SECN and many other predictions.

Doesn't mean I won't be all-in posi at every kickoff even against Clemson, LSU and Bama but from a sober standpoint, we are likely looking at a 6 - 6 season (3 -5 SEC).

We scored a shite load of points during that season, with the exception of the GA arse whippin. The defense was the problem. If a QB steps up, we actually could be pretty damn good this year.

True, but the MS State game was WEIRD. Two turnovers on our first two possessions gave State a short field both times. Plus, that was their first College Game Day ever and they had all the momentum and we still almost came back. We should have won the A&M game and we would have if not for the butt fumble. And we would have beaten Bama had we had a defense with a pulse.

Like you said, by all accounts our defense has improved.

Right now that prediction has us at 3 SEC wins. And I'll stick by my guns that we can beat Arkansas.

The more I think about it, I don't think Ole Miss will be as good as everyone thinks. Yes, they return the best QB in the SEC, but there are still a lot of questions surrounding that team. And look at their schedule. They play FSU (road) and Bama and UGA in their first four weeks. Then they play at Arkansas and at LSU the week before we play them.

UGA is likely starting a true freshman and very well could have a down year going through the coaching transition.
