This.

I understand having the threat of snapping the ball by being lined up before 10 seconds have elapsed, but if the offense is ready to go and snaps right at the 29 second mark, they will catch the defense subbing more often than not if they try it. One point of getting lined up and ready is to see how the defense lines up so they can call the play that will work best against it.

true... but the threat of it is always there and we use that to our advantage. Some of that is gone with a 10 second grace period.

Pretty sure teams knew the threat was there alyways even if we were not lined up.

Kevin S. wrote a good article on this on AL.com

Here is the answer to who votes on this: I can't believe this decision comes down to 11 people 7 of which are women.

Noreen Morris, commissioner, Northeast Conference.
Lisa Sweany, AD, Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Kristy Bayer, senior women's administrator, Arkansas Tech.
Doug Zipp, AD, Shenandoah University.
Lynn Oberbillig, AD, Smith College.
Sue Lauder, AD, Fitchburg State University.
Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott

I believe that committee approves rules for all NCAA sports, not just football... that's why they cover such a wide spectrum.

people need to just get ready for it... the 10 second rule is coming.

And the change will be minimal at best.

Larry Scott will be the loudest voice against this. His conference runs the HUNH

I will be curious as to what they will rule if the ball is snapped prior to .29 if a DL jumps off sides. I'd assume they would make that legal, but I haven't seen it yet.

It is still just an asinine rule.

And I'm sure they rely on the expert of each sport to pass the ruling. Oregon is the fastest team in the country, and Larry Scott will do what ever he can to keep it that way.

i agree... that group of clueless administrators aren't going against the recommendation of the football coaches... unless, like you said the Pac12 and MAC commissioners step up.

will be interesting to see... the backlash has been pretty strong... but could die down... and the term "player safety" is being thrown around means an almost automatic approval, imo.

And the play clock starts when the play is dead, so it takes 10 secs to set the ball and call the play in. Not sure what the meaning behind the change is, unless they are gunning for the D to have the oppurtunity to sub players after each play.

I figure both sides will not even line up so as not to get a penalty.

They NCAA rules committee, or whatever it is called, will meet in early March. (don't remember the exact date, but it is the first week of March)

Well, every national sports show I heard today is calling the proposed rule BS, and a couple even called Saban a pussy by name for trying to legislate something he can't scheme against.

So at least the voters can hear everyone calling it a bad idea before the vote happens

The article I read said that just because something had been recommended to this body (that will vote on it) doesn't mean it has been passed. I hope it doesn't pass. This will affect most teams in one way or another. A team down by 2 TD's with 8 minutes to go will be affected by it. It's total BS, is what it is.
