I wish JJ wouldn't quit. I wish his grandad didn't die. I wish he didn't hear boos when he was on the field, and feel they were directed at him. I wish Gus never put him out there last week. I wish Gus had developed him the way he deserved. I wish Gus hadn't hyped him up before the 2015 season only to have him fold under pressure. I wish we had a QB and a head coach who could develop a QB. I just wished it worked out for an obviously good kid.

The whole thing just sucks.

Well, I think JJ got his degree already. He's been a loyal AUBURN MAN and I respect that. His time has passed as the QB at Auburn though. I wish the young man all the luck in the world if he has moved on.

This does give reason to Gus's "epiphany" to change his 3 headed monster strategy. I guess when he publically says its Sean and JF3 as 1-2, then JJ sees the handwriting on the chalk board.

JJ has been a good kid, kept his nose clean, gone to class and done everything these dipshits have asked him to do. if there was any justice in this world coach doublebird would at least apologize for wasting his talents and doing absolutely nothing to develop them. even though he hasnt been a world beater at QB he is a loyal AU man and deserves to be treated as such. some of yall are assholes. I hope if JJ does leave the team he is doing it because he has a better plan for JJ and not because he feels like he has to because of our stupid coach.

being at the game and talking to several people around me, most seemed to be booing at the rotation not the actual player. i think mpst just wanted to see gus stick to one qb some were booing jj though.

I thought it was obvious that everyone was booing Gus. with the circus thats gone on it was annoying as hell to see him jerk the starter on the 3rd fricking play. I guarantee you they would have booed just as loud had it been the other way around with JJ getting pulled for SW 3 plays in. it was 3 plays in for crying out loud. wtf kinda retard does it take to pull your fricking starter 3 plays into the season opener? it's the dumbest gd thing I have ever seen in football... and I have seen some dumb shite in my day.

Has anyone actually confirmed this?

It sounds like we're giving a eulogy over a guy's career, even though we haven't found the lifeless body yet.

I have always liked the kid. He is not the toughest SOB we have had, but i believe he loves AU.

That said, he has no business playing QB ATP. It is, what it is. I lost my grandfather recently. He was like my father. It can be tough, and for that, I understand his being emotional.

What's funny is seeing the opposing fan bases on tRant talking about they hope he didn't quit. Of course you don't. With the season just getting started, hopefully this will FORCE Malzahn to actually stick with a QB. And with the defense we have this year, there's still a good shot at getting to Atlanta with an average offense.

I do find it humorous so many people are blaming Gus and Lashlee if he did indeed quit. In fact, I find it interesting so many people on here now really care about the kid after so much shite has been spewed about him on the board.

Yes, I was frustrated as hell by the poor offensive play calling last week. I didn't boo - I never boo because I was raised not to. I did leave after JJ threw the pick. I think we all agree the majority of the fans weren't booing the players.

I would hope teammates support each other and help them understand the boos might not be directed at players, but the coaching staff. If players see the shite posted about them on social media, then they have to see this sentiment posted too.

How do we know JJ isn't fed up with the game? Maybe the kid's heart isn't in it anymore.

He may have wanted to quit last season, but was talked out of it. You can't blame Gus for putting him in when he did - if anything Gus gave him a chance to get his job back. Gus didn't ask him to throw into double coverage. He didn't ask him to shoulder the entire burden.

There have been plenty of QBs under Malzahn who've switched to other positions. Maybe he had that opportunity, but didn't want it.

OK, so Gus' play calling led to the crowd booing and JJ assumed it was him. I hate that, but it was the first game of the season. The kid just might not be mentally tough enough to handle the pressure.

And for whoever said Gus talked him up last year, it started with the media and then spread to fanbase, and then MAYBE the coaching staff. I don't think you can put the hype on Malzahn. If anything, I remember him trying to temper fan's expectations.

I said it early in the thread and I'll stick by it: if he did quit, it's probably best for all parties concerned.

It didn't work out the way we all hoped on the football field but there is a lot to be said for someone being in a program four years and causing zero problems in the locker room or off the field. He kept working after he lost his job last year and came in and led us to a bowl win after White's issues in Birmingham. He then kept working all spring, summer, and fall camp to gain it back when he could have easily thrown in the towel a long time ago.

I hope for nothing but the best for JJ going forward.
