Transfer coming? (247)
Honestly wouldn't be a huge surprise. Sounds like Malik Willis passed him on the depth chart already. KN says FAU might be possible landing spot. Really hope Lindsey proves more adept at evaluating HS QB talent because clear Gus and Rhett continue to struggle in that department

Two sources with knowledge of the situation tell AuburnUndercover.com RS freshman QB Woody Barrett will be leaving the program. One said they expect an announcement to probably come today. If not today, then soon.
At 7:25 a.m. we spoke with Barrett's high school OC/QB coach Colin Drafts, but he said he had not yet heard this was happening. It was implied though he wouldn't be surprised.
Another source close to Barrrett told us shortly thereafter, "Yea he's gone I heard."
Just talked to another person with knowledge of Auburn's QBs, who said, "I was hearing that."
Late Sunday night, Barrett Tweeted the following:
I'm hurtin inside

Source: Auburn quarterback Woody Barrett leaving program (247)
quote:
Woody Barrett’s brief stint at Auburn is over.
The backup quarterback is planning to leave Auburn, a source familiar with the decision tells AuburnUndercover. An official announcement has not been made. Barrett slid down the depth chart in the spring and did not receive a single snap in the second half of the A-Day game.
Barrett is expected to transfer to a junior college for a semester before rejoining a Division I program, a source close to Barrett told AUC.
Barrett's development has been slow while on campus. He injured his ankle shortly after arriving on campus, missed several practices in August and was slow to learn the system and process information throughout his redshirt season. Newcomer Malik Willis, a freshman, then leapfrogged him on the depth chart this spring, leaving Barrett fourth on the depth chart.
The former four-star recruit was rated the nation's No. 6 dual-threat quarterback, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Sources tell AuburnUndercover.com that Auburn’s offseason change at offensive coordinator/quarterback coach (Rhett Lashlee left and was replaced by Chip Lindsey) also was a factor in Barrett’s decision to leave because he hadn’t felt comfortable in the new offense.

Yep, looks like the team has lost its Woody.

Damn that should have been the thread title

I really hate it that he is leaving but you could almost see something like this happening with Malik Willis coming in so strong.
Really seemed like Barrett had potential. Hate to see him leave

He reminds me so much of Gatewood.

To Infinity, and BEYOND!
Different type of Woody loss, I understand.

While I generally don't disagree, this might not be as much of an evaluation issue as it is Barrett can't learn the playbook. From all accounts, it seems like he's had trouble grasping it. Too bad since he has all the physical tools.

Ever since high school I liked this kid a lot. He seemed like he had a really strong competitive drive. Guess he just can't figure it out. Hate that for him

Yeah, over the last year or so it seems like on multiple occasions, beat guys made it clear that Woody just wasn't at all ready to step into the contest for the spot.

Well that sucks. I hate it for him. I said all last year that if they were playing Sean White with an obviously injured shoulder over Barrett, that there was no way Barrett was EVER gonna play.

We knew QB's were going to transfer. We simply had too many for some of them not to see the writing on the wall. Hate it didn't work out for him and best of luck wherever he lands

True and I think White will be the next one to transfer.

I doubt the second string QB is transferring anywhere.

I think we all knew this was going to be the case as soon as Willis started taking more snaps. I hope he lands somewhere that can use his talent. He seems to be a good kid with great athleticism.

Sean White aint going nowhere, except to Physical Therapy. Think about it he has been hurt more than Carl Lawson.
