This is what we want, IMO.

When this doesn't happen, when bad (or not good enough to start) QBs don't transfer, we end up moving them to positions they won't be great at either because they're on scholarship.

White should stay and get a good education and utilize the role he has to spin it into a career.

Have to wonder what Willis does if Stidham is as good as advertised with 3 years of eligibility.

I said all last year that if they were playing Sean White with an obviously injured shoulder over Barrett, that there was no way Barrett was EVER gonna play.
Which certainly explains the 2nd half of the UGa game.

Basically our only scholarship QB on roster by the end of last year was SW. The staff had zero confidence in either JJ, JFIII or Woody.

Wishfully thinking that Lindsey has addressed that problem.

This is good news. Starting to get rid of the dead weight. People may not like it, but you look at uat. They have people transferring out all the time, because talent keeps pouring in. That's what we want.

Right.

When your starter and backup is solid then you benefit from transfers. QB has been a position for us that has had so little separation that nobody wanted to transfer because they knew the starter sucks or easily breaks

love the chatter from the board.

Pretty much spot on. Woody is our 4th string QB and will never see the field at QB. Best to just let him go and bring in more fresh blood that can actually contribute, possibly, at some point.

Personally, I think that Gatewood has some game but he's raw so I'd really like to add Fields, Williams or Littlejohn.

I would add this tho. This is why I don't like to RS or not play people. There had to be a running package we could have used him in last year. Some wildcat or strictly R/Z plays. Not to say he isn't to blame, but it is still on the coaches to evaluate a player, and utilize his talents the best they can.

If Stidham is as good as advertised, he isn't going to be here for 3 years

He (Willis) probably RS this year with SW then is backup as a RS FR

Sean White probably is backup this year as he gets back to full strength then is a grad transfer.

If Stidham has as good a year as we expect/hope, he'll most likely go pro. Which means SW will most likely start his Sr year.

Well I will put it like this: if he is transferring for any other reason than someone is sick or he got kicked out, he has a quitter attitude and wouldn't be able to work and take the spot anyway. Like it or not, if you give up because two new guys took your spot then you don't have the drive to be a d1 quarterback.

Lol

Don't shoot the messenger because you don't like the message. I just don't see Willis, a RFr/So, beating out a Sr with experience like SW.

First, I clarified that I think Willis RS and White is backup then transfers in case there was confusion

I really don't see Stidham going pro next year unless he is absolutely can't miss QB prospect. Next year is one of the most stacked QB drafts in years. More importantly, Stidham will only have 18 career starts after next year which is extremely limited starting experience for RD1 QB. There is a reason articles like this were written about Trubisky and his inexperience

As for the "stacked" QB draft, while there always are the guys who "fall off" there are a ton of RD1 talent including 3 "Can't Miss" prospects which is a ridiculous class

Consensus Supposed "Can't Miss" QB Prospects (No order just counting)
1- Sam Darnold USC
2- Josh Rosen UCLA
3- Josh Allen Wyoming

Other "RD 1" Mocked players
4- Mason Rudolph - Okie St
5- Lamar Jackson - Louisville
6- Luke Falk - Wazzou
7- Jake Browning - UW

Stidham may play his way to the top and it is a possibility for sure, but if he has a great but not "can't miss" year, probably in his interest to play a 2nd year

Replace Drive, with god given ability, and it makes more sense.

Or Malik is just that good. I'll go with that.
