Do you honestly think that Grimes was trying to improve his position by moving to Cinci?

I think these two go hand in hand. Grimes is 60. He's not going to be a head coach, nor will he be an OC. A big reason he took the job was to be able to coach with his son. He's probably got 5 or so more years in him coaching before he retires - maybe less depending on when he wants to retire. He wanted to coach with his son before it was too late.

I can't speak for Thompson, but I think he was either DC at Auburn or bust after Muschamp left, especially with how long the DC search took. After he was not given the job, he chose to go elsewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if he is getting a raise at S Carolina.

Trob will be titled DC but never given credit for Muschamps defense.

I'd be happy as hell to get a huge promotion and get paid a lot more and not be able to take much credit for it. He'd be a fool to not jump at the opportunity Muschamp offered him.

Grimes won't ever be a head coach. Thompson's ceiling is probably DC at this point. Robinson certainly improved his stock. Take off the O&B glasses and realize that unless you're a coordinator or head coach at a power 5 program, all these jobs are nothing more than business decisions. You can't have school loyalties as a college football coach. You just can't.

You're right. As far as promotion to HC/OC/DC, Horton, DCraig, Thompson and TRob have all shown they want it though

Clearly you didn't read my earlier post LINK it is pretty obvious what happened with him. Grimes will be retired within 1-2 years (unless staying with his son) regardless of what jobs are offered

So taking a raise to follow a HC & DC you have relationships with instead of staying at the place that publicly rejected you for DC + don't have a connection to isn't an upgrade?

If Lance was just trying to leave, he wouldn't have waited so long to do it

I made a completely separate post to highlight how dumb you are

Our entire offensive staff minus Grimes has made it clear they are looking to be HCs. It isn't like they are leaving for lateral moves

Our defensive staff all followed "their guy" to his new place. They pinned their careers to him, why jump off the train now?

Will Muschamp has hired two guys for their first FBS DC job. Both guys went from DC to Head Coach within 4 years of being Muschamp's DC. Durkin is at Power 5 Maryland while Quinn is a NFL Head Coach

- DJ Durkin - 1st YR in DC Job - 2013, 1st HC Job - 2016 Maryland
-Dan Quinn - 1st YR in DC Job - 2011, 1st HC Job - 2015 Atlanta Flacons

I don't believe everything "insiders" say but it would make sense with who Gus has been bringing in. People he can control.

Gus' seat is getting hot. I wouldn't want to give up control on things that could affect my future either.

Would you want to put your future in the hands of other people who weren't following the beat of your drum?

cannot believe some of the shite here being asserted

I swear, instead of murdering each other after losses and bad seasons like Bama fans, we try to murder our own program.

all this "meddling" bullshite people keep touting, he's the god damn head coach. if he's not "meddling", then what the frick is he doing, exactly?

People parade around how Saban has his system and all his staff follow his lead and vision.

We hear that Gus wants to be involved in his own offense , why we hired him, and we want to shoot the guy

Where were you at four years ago when everybody accused Chizik of meddling with Gus's offense?

There are probably elements of truth in what is being said, but RS is absolutely known for bringing info like this to generate post during down times.

I am of the opinion that Gus should do it exactly the way he wants. If he succeeds more power to him, if he fails we will move on. I wouldn't want to look back and think I took advice from guys I didn't agree with just to make them happy.

At least that was Chizik, a D coach, meddling with the offense that was designed by his OC

Gus is messing with his own specialty, the offense, and program administration. shite the HC/Gus should be involved in

Yeah. That is fine. Remember two days ago when I was half-heartedly wondering if Gus was meddling with our defensive recruiting; those are exactly the situations that could hurt a team IFtrue. Because Gus isn't a defensive coach and he really doesn't know what Steele needs as a DC.

Anyways, according to the OP, Gus has been "meddling" with recruiting. Like I said, I don't believe the reports but it also wouldn't surprise me if true.

After the problems our OFFENSE had this season, GM better be meddling with the offense and the coaches handling offensive duties.

I dont believe for a second GM is meddling with the D with a new DC and a new asst DC/DB coach coming in.

I can see GM directly involved with recruiting regardless if it offensive or defensive players. The two new Defensive coaches do not know how our recruiting process, so i want GM to show them how we do it.

SO to me, any RS rumor has no truth in my mind. period.!!

Well if they knew more about what needed to be done I would let them do it. I believe a HC should hire the best coaches and let them control what they do.

Not at all an insider and I don't claim to know, but the way the Grimes situation played out almost looks like Gus may have had Hand already in the fold and it could have been more of a seizing the opportunity to get Hand and then moving Grimes off field. I believe Hand was Gus's first choice when he was hired, and Hand may have been ready to get out of Penn State and Franklin.

All the others make sense. TRob and Thompson were not staying without DC roles. Thompson always has been a vagabond and TRob has followed Muschamp everywhere. Bentley got to go back home and to an on field position and really get his name out in the coaching ranks. No one outside Auburn really knows Bentley.

Grimes isn't coaching much longer, Gus maybe thought hiring Hand was a better option now than his options in 2-3 years

Also, as I mentioned Grimes has had recent health issues + deaths in the family. It seems awfully funny that his new job is with his son.
