It's behind a paywall so will summarize. A student filed a complaint through the university against him. We can't know what the complaint is or how it will be or has been resolved because it's not public record. The big thing is he was not kicked off the team. PM says he left of his own accord because of the complaint.

Now I don't know if we asked or recommended him to do that but thought it was interesting he supposedly voluntarily left the team. Selfishly I want this thing to be resolved & him to get back on the team but having no idea what he did or the legitimacy of the claims I hope that if there was something inappropriate done he gets his punishment but if not then he gets a chance to play football again. Just a shitty situation all around but it seems to be being handled appropriately from the limited info we have right now

Do you think it was suggested to him to leave the team to possibly keep a redshirt or another year of eligibility next year should the complaint be dropped or ruled to be false?

If he did something bad then he should be punished but we've also seen numerous stories along these lines where the complaint turns out to be false or dropped all together.

This would make sense. It gives him a very easy way to get back on the team. Best for all parties. He actually looks mature in how he handles it, the team isn't liable for anything, and if this is a bogus claim, he can rejoin and not lose anything.

Other than potential scholarship implications, anyone in this situation should "leave" the team.

You reduce spotlight and you remove any chance of public pressuring forcing you to be booted off team. You allow yourself to return if innocent

I don't think it works that way... once your start school, your eligibility clocks starts iirc.

A female filed a complaint that he sexually assaulted her.

The burden of proof is a preponderance of the evidence. This roughly translates "If I had to guess, I'd say they did it" = guilty

On top of that low burden of proof, the DOE wrote a 'Dear Colleague Letter' essentially telling all institutions if they don't act swift and harshly on these cases, they will have consequences.

Title IX states that: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

In this case it was probably a sexual assault complaint against Rice.

Ah. I always thought Title IX dealt with discrimination from an institution.

Sucks to hear, but I wish we were privy to some details, just to know what happened.

Its basically guilty until proven innocent?

My thought is that if the allegations can have such strict and immediate actions then the trial or hearing to exonerate or convict should be just as swift with the evidence that would be present.

Title IX is discrimination. The connection to sexual harassment/assault is that it deprives people of access to education and the victim demographic is skewed towards females

Yes, the issue is what has been inferred.

A ton of rumor swirling around. Even that he has already passed a polygraph, if you are looking for ANYTHING positive to gleam from this.

I doubt he plays anywhere for a couple years.

Congrats to all the SJW's out there! You have created a situation where if you don't buy breakfast, you might go to prison.

Polygraphs are only viewed as evidence on tv shows/movies.

He isn't at risk of going to prison based solely on a Title IX investigation. Hopefully he gets a fair shake and punished/cleared accordingly

I want to hear from "ever43" who posted a picture the other day of the flyer supposedly circulating around campus dorm rooms. The flyer said Landon is innocent and the girl is a liar. It pleaded with her sorority sisters to shame her into telling the truth. It then quoted some Bible verses and gave a link to a website that defends guys falsely accused of sexual assault on campuses.

I want to know how ever43 got a hold of the flyer. I did a reverse google image lookup and his image appears to be one of a kind. Either he made the flyer himself for lulz or it is legit and he got it from someone at the campus.

Can any other AU student around here confirm the flyer at the dorm rooms rumor? It just seems so fricking weird (and wrong) to do that. Although I can understand his anger if he is being falsely accused.
