On the prayer thing

I don't care if AD employees+ JJ have an optional prayer before the meeting/game/event. I don't care if JJ prays in his office to keep his job. He is free to express/share his religion in when he is acting as a private Citizen

JJ isn't always just a private citizen. When he leads Auburn AD meetings/events his comments are official Auburn Atheltic positions.

When an event is mandatory, like an AD staff meeting, and the athletic director leads a clear denominational prayer that is a problem. JJ in that context is assuning his role as a government official and his action implies a stamp of approval for a specific religion which isnt allowed

I'm with you 100% there. Again, this is Auburn, Christianity is very prevalent in our programs, for better or worse. That isn't the problem. It is just as you mentioned.

Of course. I'm not saying remove Christianity or try to limit people's religious beliefs is the thing

I'm just saying when in the role of a public official, he shouldn't be giving denominational prayers

We are Auburn fans, everyone here is use to Christianity being pretty prevalent in our programs.

Yet it's bitched about all the time.

That isn't new.

Neither is the criticism.

Actually, most Auburn fans are behind our players whenever they pray.

Most sure. I'm not talking about most.

I think you're projecting your feelings about society in general to what you are assuming people are getting upset about in this thread.

I think you naively think that the Auburn is completely isolated from society.

Does he do a "tent revival" all the time?

How would I know? I would guess no. I would also guess he didn't do it this time.

Where did I say it mattered to me if he was a Christian or not?

The part where you said him being our AD puts you in a position to judge his faith.

quote:

What matters to me is what you say vs what you do.

What you do is all that matters.

If he runs his AD poorly but hides behind a veil of righteousness to win sympathy and avoid consequences, that is a very bad thing.

In today's world, it does not win you sympathy. It actually brings more skepticism

You don't know that at all

That paragraph was feeding off the one before where I laid out an example of doing the same prayer over and over.

quote:

All that is known was that the actions were enough for PM to report them as a "tent revival".

All that is known is PM reported what he did.

That's also jumping to conclusions. Prayer is not clearly one religion. It can be but it doesn't have to be.

I'm not doubting that his prayers are specific to Christianity though

Absolutely. I’m talking more about ‘at the time of’ with his decision making. At the time, that was a bad decision. Kinda ended up working out....kinda
