I get that... Just seems like you could pull someone from a lower level who's got something to prove and actually has DC experience. Freeze will be putting a ton of faith in a guy who's never done it before... with a defense short on talent and depth. It's a recipe for getting yourself fired.

In that case Freeze better go with Leavitt, has way more experience than McGriff. Also could be a situation where they interviewed McGriff so Ole Miss doesnt look racist.

Honestly, the better move for Freeze (not necessarily OM) is Leavitt. The Ole Miss fans have been tired of Werner and Womack for a couple of years, as well as Matt Luke. They want fresh blood.

Leavitt isn't leaving for ole miss, but he would be a great hire... he worked for harbaugh with the 49ers as a linebackers coach... and has done a hell of a job remaking Colorado's defense. Not to mention he built USF from scratch.

Hopefully we can talk McGriff into staying on... bump in pay or something.

PM already backpedaling some on his "McGriff isn't leaving" posts from earlier. Marcello says there are some that wonder how interested McGriff is in the DC position there...

So considering those guys track records you can consider him gone

Makes sense... Taggert and Leavitt have both worked for Harbaugh in the past (tho not at the same time). Oregon DC position under a new HC is a waaaay more attractive and lucrative job than working for freeze right now.

With the situation at OM between the NCAA and Freeze being canned if they dont win 9 games or more next year, I would be shocked if any big name took the DC job there.

Gus has a seat in that boat.

Like I said earlier........I don't see why any coach would go to Ole Miss right now. The NCAA could hammer them or just slap them on the wrist. I tend to believe the hammer is coming.

Well he won 8 with a turd sandwich at QB for 3 of the 4 games he lost. I would say Stidham is a upgrade and I honesly think the D will be better year 2 under Steele. Despite losing Lawson, Adams, and Ford.
