Sounding more and more like we are losing McGriff this year. That would really hurt us in trying to close on some of these top S targets. Not sure who we would go after for DB coach. Was hoping we would have McGriff for at least 2 years but wouldn't blame him for taking an SEC DC job

For what it's worth Gus says Ole Miss has not contacted him yet about interviewing McGriff

Yeah but Ole Miss doesn't exactly do things the right way.

If we do lose him some names I would want us to look at

Mike Reed (Clemson)
Torrian Gray (Florida)
Kerry Coombs (Ohio State)
Derrick Ansley (Alabama)

Probably all pipe dreams but any above would give us a great recruiter and coach. Really hoping McGriff stays on though

Knowing Gus, Josh Holsey will get the job since he is familiar with the system and he is an Auburn man

Steele has been in the game for a LOOOOONG time, I trust he'd already have some names in his head that he'd like to bring in.

Did he not hire McGriff last year?

As close as The Beaver and Gus are I highly doubt they would contact McGriff without asking first.

Or they have contacted Malzahn and he's lying to keep the recruits happy in the case that McGriff does stay.

Who cares we didn't need him anyway. He was not very good at developing the DB's and his recruiting was average at best.

All that's missing a personal insult to the OP and you got it down

Can Kevin Greene coach DBs?

Honestly, if T-Will hadn't done such a great job with our LBs I'd say move him to DB coach and bring in Greene, but I like where T-Will is now

Have to mention him having last ranked secondary in the NFL with the Saints.

Quick google search shows Lolley is the LBs coach for the CFL Saskatchewan Roughriders

What a badass name

Not really a surprise McGriffs name has been on their short list since the beginning of their search. Earlier in the week Marcello said it appeared that McGriff would stay put and that Lashlee and Horton were the only ones who could leave

It's not surprising he chooses not to go to Ole Miss. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but there are a lot of distractions around that program right now with NCAA issues. Plus, he probably realizes he has more talent to work with at AU. Also, isn't his nephew on AU's team?

Word is Freeze is about to press the pedal to the metal on coordinator hires. Right now, just what I believe, Phil Longo still the leader for OC. McGriff is going to get the DC. Just my opinion. As y'all know, I've been wrong before.

PM seems to think McGriff is gonna stay so you can pretty much assume he's gone

Really hope McGriff hangs around for another year... but I can understand if he jumps at the opportunity.

Why ole miss would hire an unproven commodity to call their defense is strange... but freeze may be desperate, and McGriff has history there.

I would think it would be hard for Ole Miss to get any coach there right now.
