I'm actually pretty worried about UT. I'm hoping that they aren't sold on the GusBus enough to offer him big money. I know we could pony up a lot of money, but not 7 mil/year.
I just have a hard time believing they'd offer a 2nd year head coach upwards of 7 million a year. They may go as high as 4.5 to 5, but I think we would probably match that, if not come really close.

Guys...Texas is going after whales to start off. They are not going to talk to a coach with 2 years of head coaching experience. This is the University of Texas.
New AD...first hire...he will go for a homerun.
Gus is not a homerun hire in thier eyes.
Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll, Art Briles, David Shaw, and Chip Kelly...those are whales.
Gus is a tuna.

True, but I heard Steve Patterson and William Powers like sushi.

@bmarcello: Malzahn on more rumors: "I'm a good fit for Auburn Tigers. That's why I signed a contract" before SEC Championship.

I don't see it happening for a number of reasons, but it still makes me slightly uneasy thinking back to Chizik and Boom.
We're 12-1 and some of y'all still can't stop being "uneasy".

Would not be surprised at all if Texas is seriously tryin to gauge Gus's interest. In fact think they probably have and would not be at all surprised if they went hard after Gus if the interest was reciprocated.
However, if Texas wants Gus, I say 5% he would take it. I am not worried at all. Gus a perfect fit at AU and will make tens of millions at AUif he is successful. He has turned down doubling and trippling of his salary before. It isn't all about the money and AU is a TOP job. In fact considering how well Gus fits, AU is a better job for him than Texas.
He isn't going anywhere and I would give anyone 10:1 odds on it right now and lay down $10k to get $1k if I could.

If he goes to UT he has a chance to play for the national championship, if he stays at Auburn he has no chance.
Oh wait....

If Gus goes to Texas, i don't blame him. Texas is considered an elite program while we aren't seen as elite while Bama is playing good football. I would like for Gus to stay but I wish him well if he does move on.
All that said, I don't see him leaving Auburn anytime soon. I think he and his family thoroughly enjoy Auburn and the fans love him. As long as the team will play for him, the fans will continue to love Gus.

In terms of national perception, no we aren't elite. The elite programs are Notre Dame, Alabama, USCw, Texas, Michigan and Ohio State. If one of those teams has one loss, they are ahead of us in the polls with us having 1 loss, it is the perception of them being better than us.

Ohio State & Bama lost one game.

Very low. UT could be a great job but AU is better right now and better for Gus I think.

In terms of the course of history of college football those may be the elite teams. If you haven't noticed, playing in the sec gives you more recognition and benefit, and if you win the conference and play for a NC, you are considered elite.

I woouldn't worry about it. I think James Franklin, Dabo, or Jim Mora Jr. are a lot more likely to be there next year.
